PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Summarize the purpose of this position to assess its expected contribution to the results of the organization.
Provide regulatory engineering review, verification and validation safety and EMC planning, testing and report administration for new product development efforts. Ultimately responsible for the execution of regulatory approval activities for the group. Work requires expert knowledge of safety and EMC standards, engineering skill, and independent judgment.

REGULAR RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for providing multidisciplinary support and define for design review, planning, testing and report administration of UPS at safety and EMC side;
Lead the safety verification and validation testing, and coordinate the testing of new products in outside certified laboratories;
Provide product safety and EMC design oversight, certification and operations support to project team;
Develop and review documentation and process, as assigned;
Track related standards and knowledge update linking to UPS and remind it to department member, and gain certifications on new revised products including UL, CB,CE and others;
Support safety and EMC questions in factory locations as required;
Train related staff on safety and EMC design and test methods;

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

Provide safety and EMC items support to overseas program as required;
Support laboratory safety equipment needs and records upkeep, and train new staff for usage method;
Other duties as required;
SPECIFIC ISSUES: Such as work base, frequency of traveling, etc.
Located in Shanghai. Once for every 3 months of travel.
KEY INTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS
With whom, to resolve what problems, with what responsibility?
Work with EE and ME to make sure the design can need the regulatory requirement. If can’t meet the compliance, need to help the engineering team to figure out the solution.
Review the documentation about compliance and inform related departments to renew the documentation.
KEY EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS
With whom, to resolve what problems, with what responsibility?
Work with regulatory agencies in order to let our products get the certificates;
Work with outside certified laboratories in order to verify some special safety and EMC requirement;
Communicate with ODM/OEM suppliers and make sure the design of product can meet the regulatory requirement;
International team for product design and verification test.
REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
Compulsory: degree of bachelor (major) of electrical engineering University
Ideal: degree of master (major) of electrical engineering University
REQUIRED FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL SKILLS, Specify “Advanced”, “Good” or “Basic”
Compulsory:
· Expert command of requirements in Low Voltage and EMC Directive;
· Very familiar with UPS or Information technology equipment related standard such as IEC/EN62040-1/2, UL1778,IEC/EN/UL60950-1,IEC61000 series;
Ideal:
· 5+ years experience in information technology equipment safety and EMC function;

APC was acquired by Schneider Electric in 2007. MGE UPS Systems, another division of Schneider Electric, merged with APC. Together they represent the IT Business Unit of Schneider Electric. IT Business offers the industry’s most comprehensive product and solution range for critical IT and process applications in industrial, enterprise, small and medium business and home environments.

In 2008, Shanghai R&D Center of IT Business was inaugurated in Shanghai. As a core R&D group under the Schneider Electric IT Business, Shanghai R&D center is working on the new product development of Surge-Protection Power, Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), Precision Cooling Solution, Racks & Accessories, and Power Distribution Units.

Shanghai R&D Center ------ HBN
·Specialize in surge and line conditioner technologies.
·Build expertise in embedded systems and UPS technology starting with derivative projects starting in 2009.
·With UPS experience, build China customer expertise for Home segment projects.
Charter
To design, develop and bring to market solutions for HBN customers using APC's mature solution concept prioritization, research and PMP methods. The solutions will be made of robust subsystems that can be easily reused in other HBN products. Whenever possible, and within product cost and time to market program constraints, trade-offs shall be made in favor of reliability, modularity and scalability/ extensitibility.
We will leverage our location to best integrate product solution architecture with China suppliers of surge protector and components.
We will leverage our location near manufacturing to best utilize the resources that achieve our quality, cost and time to market objectives.

·Pursue a Clear Leader Strategy in Racks & Accessories, Power Distribution Units and Service
·Maintain Challenger Strategy in Cooling with pushing highly innovative Solutions and targeting top of mind IT Decision maker issues
Primary Mission
Create profitable product solutions in support of PMP Product Roadmap initiatives and create value for our Customers worldwide.
Key Accountabilities
·New product design creativity and implementation excellence.
·Innovate through technology.
·Develop PMP capability on all product families.
·Initiate and support In-Region vendor selection/development for technical product applications.
·Support Manufacturing Operations as In-region product/process technical resource.
·Assist Factory Operations in product trouble-shooting and theory of operations training.
·Support PMP sourcing (initial & second source) and Value Engineering initiatives on technical applications.
·Facilitate In-region compliance approvals to support Zone Sales initiatives.
·Support Zone as In-region product expert.

·The Shanghai R&D Center will use Engineering Administration resources from IT Business in US to support Oracle and Notes data entry; and Patent and Environmental consulting and administration. Sharing of knowledge and skill between Shanghai and all engineering groups in all locations is required to be successful.
