Job Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated scientist to join Novartis Oncology Translational Medicine (OTM) group based in Shanghai, China. The successful candidate will need to have a deep knowledge of signal transduction, biomarkers and genetics in the field of oncology. The candidate’s key responsibilities are: (1) To execute molecular epidemiology studies on the genomic scale and participate in data mining and, (2) To develop, validate and execute biomarker assays using cancer preclinical models and clinical tissue specimens to support Novartis oncology clinical trials.

The candidate will report directly to Leader of Oncology Translational Research (China) and shall anticipate working closely with internal multidisciplinary groups world-wide as well as external collaborators and commercial vendors. The candidate will run laboratory experiments on a daily basis, prepare oral and written reports to peers and project teams and may mentor junior scientists.

Minimum requirements:

Has at least 8 years of working experience in modern molecular biology technologies, including, but not limited to

o DNA / RNA preparation from small amounts of frozen and FFPE tissues

o DNA / RNA quantitation assays for (RT-qPCR, NanoString and Affymetrix, etc.)

o Experience with next Generation Sequencing is highly desired

o Soluble protein analysis (Western blotting, ELISA, Luminex and MDS, etc.)

o Cell-based assays and virus-mediated RNAi technology are a plus

Mastered the state-of-the-art technologies in modern molecular biology

Meticulous and precise with techniques

Demonstrated problem-solving skills and creativity during assay development and optimization

Insightful and influential with proven interpersonal communication skills during collaborations

Fluent in writing and speaking English with strong ability to formally prepare reports and standard operating procedures (SOPs) and present data

Independent, proactive, innovative, highly organized and analytical
