Job Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated bioinformatics scientist to join Novartis Oncology Translational Medicine (OTM) based in Shanghai, China, a dynamic group dedicated to the development of cancer therapeutics in China and Asia Pacific area. The successful candidate will be the key person to support bioinformatics analyses in OTM-China, integrate with global OTR bioinformatics teams and report directly to Leader of Oncology Translational Research (OTR), China.

The successful candidate must be self-directed and collaborative and will:

1. Supply computational, machine learning or modeling needed to synthesize data into actionable next steps for drug development projects;

2. Analyze large-scale genomic datasets acquired internally and in collaboration with external academic and industrial research institutes;

3. Support the analysis of next generation sequencing data for OTM projects;

4. Collaborate with Global OTR and NIBR IT teams to design, acquire and implement effective analyses to meet the project needs;

5. Identify and execute innovations (computational, machine learning, and strategic) that will quantifiably improve projects.

Minimum requirements:

1. At least 8 years experience building model in complex arenas, with at least 4 years of relevant experience in systems biology, pathway database applications, and/or gene expression profiling data analysis

2. A background in DNA sequencing technologies, Cancer Biology, Translational Research, Pathway Analysis, Quantitative Methods for Systems Biology, Network Analysis, or Simulation are extremely advantageous

3. First-hand multi-parametric data mining experience with expression, copy number, or next generation sequencing datasets for target identification and biomarker discovery

4. First-hand experience at integrating publicly or commercially available genetic, genomic, and interaction datasets with novel experimental data to identify testable hypotheses

5. Hands-on experience with several of: pathway analysis tools (eg Ingenuity, GeneGo, NexBio), cell gene network modeling, protein-protein interaction databases, data mining, or microarray data analysis

6. Demonstrated statistical and analytical ability with programming experience in R or MatLab

7. Familiarity with Java or C/C++ platforms is a plus.

8. Strong communication skills and a successful track record of collaborating with cross-functional scientific teams

9. Fluent in oral and written English with a strong ability to formally prepare reports and present data

10. Self-driven, proactive, innovative and deliverable
