SUMMARY

Versum Materials (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. is seeking an accomplished EH&S professional with broad experience in the fields of worker safety, environmental and safety permitting, industrial hygiene, emergency response, and product safety to fill the position of EH&S Manager at our Wai Gao Qiao, Shanghai location. This position will support all operations in WGQ Site which includes Specialty Gas, next-generation CMP slurries, ultra-thin dielectric and metal film precursors, formulated cleans and etching products. The person in this role will have accountability as the primary EH&S contact for Versum Materials, China. EH&S Specialist responsibilities include: 1).Monitoring national and local EHS regulation updates, evaluating the potential impact on our operation, and taking compliance initiatives to ensure continual EHS compliance; 2) Providing assistance to management team to establish, maintain and implement an effective EHS management system in the site to protect the health and safety and comply with national and local regulation and Internal Merck standard; 3) Fostering a positive cross-BU/Function EHS culture in the site and across sites; 4) Conducting daily or routine EHS inspections to identify the potential hazards and risks, requesting team to take the corrective and preventive actions, and tracking the progress; 5) leading the  establishment of  the emergency response procedure, participating or organizing the emergency drill; 6) Leading EH&S trainings, leading incident investigations; conducting compliance audits; ensuring all facility EH&S related permits are in place and renewed as required; and providing day to day guidance to manufacturing sites.

 

In addition, the role also supports when appropriate Product Safety and Trade regulatory compliance. The EH&S will support chemical substance registrations in China and also complete required chemical data reporting. The position will also serve as the Trade Compliance single-point-of-contact in China, ensuring that all required trade licenses are in place and all import/export practices meet requirements and SSO (Site Security Officer) per Merck’s guidance to support safe activities of  DS&S plant. The EH&S position will work closely with global and regional Environmental, Health, & Safety (EH&S) team members, operations leadership, and commercial team members. This position will report into the SEMI China. Occasional travel will be required, mostly in-country. The EH&S position will hold the monthly Safety Committee meeting and the monthly warehouse safety meeting, organize half year WGQ site ER drill. This position also plays a role of East China ER leader.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EDUCATION:

• Bachelor’s degree or above with major in EHS related field, e.g. environment science/engineering, safety engineering or chemical engineering, etc.

• Experience: At least 8 years in an EH&S support function in an industrial/manufacturing setting. Semiconductor and DG warehouse/hazardous chemical experience a plus.

• Knowledgeable in safety management processes (Lock-out/tag-out & Energy Isolation, Work Permitting, Electrical Safe Work Practices, PPE, etc.)

• Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO45001. Certified safety engineer and certified internal auditor are preferred.

• Proficient in problem-solving and root cause analysis techniques

• Strong technical aptitude

• Good understanding of China EHS regulatory requirements

• Ability to travel, occasionally on short notice.

• Experience providing leadership to project teams and contracted third parties.

• Strong work process focus and ability to project manage.

• Strong communication, organization, and influencing skills. Ability to communicate with colleagues remotely, including teleconferences during off-hours.

• Effective presenter/trainer

• Good computer skills.

• Fluent mandarin and good English.
