CBI is a boutique risk consultancy that is currently seeking to hire talented research analysts in our Shanghai and Guangzhou offices. Entry-level research analysts will primarily be responsible for conducting due diligence projects (involving primary source and secondary source research in both Chinese and English). Casework sometimes is conducted in teams and sometimes alone; thus, candidates must both be strong team players as well as have the capacity to work independently with minimal oversight. Candidates must have native level Chinese, and fluent English.

Projects generally involve research into companies and principals in all manner of industries in greater China; objectives can vary widely. Desktop research and interviews will be conducted in Chinese; synthesis of final reports will be fully in English. Communication intra-office will largely be conducted in English.

Compensation is negotiable based on qualifications and experience.

Position will generally lead to senior analyst, and then project manager (a more client-facing role) within 1-2 years based on performance.

Required skill sets:

• Strong and meticulous attention to detail. Must be able to pick out clues from seemingly trivial information in order to make connections and broader inferences to drive investigations and research. Must be willing to review data ad nauseum in to ensure that no details are lost ('no stone is unturned') and report findings to a high degree of precision.
• Strong and confident communication skills (written and spoken) in both English and Chinese
• Must have proven experience in conducting research projects (researching, analyzing, and writing reports from information sourced in both English and Chinese)
• Dedicated work ethic - must be willing to work overtime, and possess strong personal initiative
• Must be comfortable making large numbers of cold calls and conducting primary source research
• Fundamental understanding of international business practices and concepts
• Strong problem-solver, must be able to generate new ideas to solve unique problems and adapting to new challenges
• Infallible sense of personal responsibility
• Comfortable making presentations and expressing personal and professional opinions to co-workers, management, and clients
• Demonstrated research experience (writing samples must be submitted)
• Background in economics, business, political science, or any international or multi-disciplinary study is strong preferred.
• Native level Chinese
• Outgoing, social, and creative personalities are a strong plus
• Must be willing to undertake a high level of responsibility and autonomy at a young age. A high degree of maturity and professionalism is a must
• Fluent in oral and written English
• Must currently reside in either Shanghai or Guangzhou
• Fluency in Microsoft Office and various Internet functions are an absolute must
