Data Scientist – RWE and Medical Informatics

Role Description

International Real World Evidence project team is seeking a talented data scientist to provide real world evidence (RWE) and medical informatics support to RWE activities in AstraZeneca International region (Asia, LATAM, Middle East and Africa). The role requires close interaction with study teams to improve the use of patient outcome information in drug R&D and product launch.

The successful individual will be part of the International RWE supporting team in China responsible for identifying, defining and developing analytical services to RWE studies across the International region. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to be adaptable, support a range of scientific projects in parallel, including direct clinical trial design support, RWE platform and capability build with external vendors.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities

· Support RWE study implementations in the International region according to the protocol.

· Conduct the extracting and processing of the RWE data and being hands on performing the analysis

· Deliver the analysis findings to clients using reports and other visual representations to support data-driven decision making

· Merge external data such as epidemiological data, medical claims data, and electronic health records data with internal data from discovery through post marketing to derive business insights

· Work with projects to address specific information, analysis and interpretation challenges relating to RWE research

· Work with software developers / architects to rapidly and iteratively develop generic tools for priority projects

· Promote a positive team climate of continuous improvement and motivate peers to deliver competitive advantage through clear linkages between investment in people and business performance.

· Contribute to the overall clinical and RWE informatics strategy and architecture

Minimum Requirements – Education and Experience

Essential

· MS in Biomedical Informatics, Clinical Informatics, Public Health or a related discipline with 1+ years of relevant data analytics experience.

· Deep understanding of healthcare data from various sources (Claim, EMR, Social Health) as well as the key issues of utilizing healthcare data for pharmaceutical research

· Familiar with secondary data assets used in pharmaceutical commercial effectiveness analysis, such as longitudinal patient-level data and/or Electronic Medical Records (EMR) data.

· Deep understanding of statistical concepts, algorithms and data processing and visualization and experience processing and analyzing large multivariate data sets.

· Experience of using R/SAS/SPSS or similar data analysis applications.

· Programming skills using scripting languages such as Perl, Python or pipelining tools.

· Excellent communication skills and facilitation skills with the ability to work with others to achieve objectives

Desirable

· Medical background with strong knowledge of health care practices as well as medical data of different diseases.

· Systematic review and meta-analysis training and experience

· Experience with algorithm development, data mining, Natural-Language Processing (NLP), machine learning and artificial intelligence.

· Experience of working in medical information delivery / informatics projects.
