Position Summary
Supported by a team of Software Engineers the Technical Leader is responsible for developing a technical solution and software functionality that meets customer needs and design specification for warehouse management solutions (WMS)
Working closely with the Customer, Project Manager & Applications Consultants, the Technical Leader will ensure the technical solution is delivered to project plan and budget and meets RedPrairie quality standards
In the absence of a Project Manager the Technical Leader will provide project leadership on smaller projects and/or sub-areas of larger projects, taking overall responsibility for the project (technical and operational).
Essential Responsibilities / Duties:
The responsibilities of the Technical Leader are described below:
To work closely with the Project Manager and input into the creation and maintenance of the project plan that delivers expected ROI, with particular reference to the technical part of the solution
Project Governance
· Risk Management
· Quality Assurance
· Change Order Management
· Implementation in accordance with RedPrairie methodology and best practice
Supervision of Technical Project Team
· Manage task list.
· Ensure adherence to RedPrairie best practice and methodology
· Coach individuals and support and initiate project teambuilding and project team morale.
· Provide quality check of all deliverables
· Provide regular feedback to the Technical Manager and undertake regular project reviews of the technical team
· Produce detailed design documentation to agreed quality standards
· Software Engineering to coding standards and code reviewing
· Produce detailed module/unit test plans and provide documentary evidence of testing activity
Working with the Project Manager and/or Applications Consultant, assess requirements, operational flow and design solution.
· Understand the client’s business, goals and philosophy.
· Define requirements, documenting “as is” and “to be” processes.
· Map requirements onto software functionality, minimizing customization where possible & ensuring liaison with standard development for suitability with reference to standard product
· Participate in “peer review” of modifications across projects
· Develop best-fit model and identify gaps
· Create design blueprint
Act as key member of the Implementation team:
· Transform design into practice through configuration, development and helping client implement “to be” processes
· Create system documentation for all configured elements
· Conduct full code reviews
· Log and manage issues
· Assist with migration of solution to production environment
· Support go-live and roll-out of solution
· Execute training to both internal and to clients
· Assist customers/users with development of requirements specification.
· Provide on-site customer support including:
o Hardware and software installation
o Trouble shooting
o Operational support
o Post go-live technical support
· Build interfaces to host systems (e.g., ERP, Automated equipment) and ensure satisfactory performance with reference to customer requirements
Qualification / Experience
· Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related subject or equivalent experience in technology-related field.
· Typically 5 - 8 years of relevant technical experience
· Proven experience in a customer facing role
· Experience in Senior Engineering role, providing mentoring to others
· Experience of interfacing to other systems desirable
· Experience of Supply Chain solutions and in particular, Warehouse Management systems
· Project Management Training (Prince 2 or similar) desirable
Technical Skill Requirements
Strong knowledge of the following;
· “C” – used extensively for application programmers (server side). Knowledge of language, compiling and debugging
· Java – used for application’s web user interface.
· Sound knowledge of Object Orientated Programming concepts. Knowledge of java language (J2SE/J2EE standards)
· Experience with IDE (eg ECLIPSE, JBUILDER,JDEVELOPER)
· Experience with J2E Middle layer products (e.g. JBOSS, Tomcat, HTTP Server)
· Oracle / SQL Server - used for application database
· Knowledge of SQL
· Experience writing Pro*C & PL/SQL code
· Experience using SQL *PLUS, SQL Developer or TOAD
· Knowledge of Scripting Languages - JAVA Script, PERL etc
· Familiarity with Windows Operating Systems
Good working knowledge of;
· Full project lifecycle from design to support
· Client/Server environment
· Source code control systems
