Purposes/Key Objectives
- Focuses strongly on output of the technical service team: quality & quantity by supporting the targets set by the regional sales plan. Manages workload of the team members, clearly defining the roles and responsibilities of his/her team members
- Develops and manages a regional strategy for technical services through development of a regional plan. After approval, executes this plan by effective management of the interfaces of business, technical sales, and technical service.
- Contributes to a worldwide product development plan. Holds responsibility for new product market introductions within the region in close cooperation and coordination with peers in other regions.
- Co-develops market introduction packages from commercial experiences with our products, promotion material, technical papers.
- Is responsible for the development, storage and dissipation of technical service knowledge and tools together with peers in other regions.
- Manages the technical service and subject matter expert team of the region
- Guardian of Technical Excellence for CFT (standardized versus customized offerings; unit monitoring, catalyst performance test-run, troubleshooting, CFT startup activities, CFT loading supervision (own employees as well as 3rd parties).
- Ensures his team applies Challenger Selling techniques, tools and learnings to successfully have our value propositions accepted by our customers.
- Develops and provides CFT training programs for technical service and sales.
- Develops dedicated and specialized knowledge in the fields of CFT: gasoline HDS, ULSD, diesel upgrading and dewaxing, diesel and VGO hydrocracking, and resid hydroprocessing.
- Steers and controls CFT customer service projects for the region.
- Supports Technical Sales in key accounts across sales teams at the technical level and the associated R&D centers.
- Is involved in defining product specifications and qualifications with R&D and production.
- Establishes and maintains personal technical leadership at industry meetings.
The Technical Service (TS) Manager activities consist of three major parts:
1. Managing the Technical Service team
- Ensure that while transitioning to new commercial organization, tasks/responsibilities not being followed up are brought to management attention
- Explain and monitor the defined tasks and responsibilities to the team members
- Ensure workload is properly divided amongst team members
- Hold frequent discussions with employees to evaluate tasks and responsibilities in relation to workload and customer coverage in line with sales plan
- Validating technical proposals.
- In specific cases, assist in arranging testwork at the Albemarle laboratories prior to an inquiry.
2. Supporting the Technical Sales team by:
- Introducing new products to the customer
- Giving recommendations to the customer on the application of our catalysts
- Drive process of team members making value propositions, coach and mentor his technical service team to apply challenger selling techniques like reframing, tailoring, constructive tension and commercial teaching
- Building up a good relation with key people within the customer organization.
3. Coach Technical Service team in:
- Preparing Technical Proposal for all segments of CFT,
- Organizing catalyst performance test-run,
- Monitoring the CFT catalyst performance,
- Unit troubleshooting for CFT,
- Assist arranging analyses on spent catalysts, feedstocks and/or products, etc.
- CFT unit start up
- CFT loading supervision
- Get feedback on modeling tools used to the modeling team
Qualifications
- Masters or PhD degree in Chemical Engineering or Catalysis
- Experience level: typically 10+ years in Hydroprocessing with at least 3 years of experience in technical management
- Experience in coaching and guiding Technical Service Engineers in unit monitoring, troubleshooting, making technical offers, preparing visit plans for customers, negotiation checklists and defining CFT catalyst loadings
- Extensive technical expertise in the field of CFT
- Experience in managing technical teams, performance coaching, technical excellence and a strong affinity for continuous improvement and process discipline
- Organizational leadership experience
- Proven track records in informal leadership
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work in small and large groups and all levels of the organization
- Ability to build connections, credibility and exert influence in the different organizational levels
