Duties:

The primary purpose of the role is to deliver Architecture and Designs to meet the business requirements of Global Utilities.

The Lead Infrastructure Architect will critically review and approve all designs for Global Utilities, ensuring designs meet the Global Utilities strategy and the overall enterprise infrastructure strategy.

The team also contributes to the management & optimisation of the portfolio of infrastructure for each business unit, driving operational improvement & cost efficiencies.

This role will support the Global Utilities business projects and transformation programmes

? delivering new IT services, exploiting current infrastructure technologies

? migrating applications to IaaS / PaaS platforms on internal and external cloud.

? driving a greater utilization of virtualisation & lower cost storage

? migrating away from non-strategic technology platforms

? optimising data backup and retention policies

? reducing the number of end user devices.

Infrastructure Architecture’s broader focus is to:

? Investigate new infrastructure technologies to meet the Global Utilities business requirements.

? Provide technical governance over the Products used in HSBC through the Technical Reference Model (TRM)

? Provide service governance of both existing and new technical non-functional service definitions maintained within an Infrastructure Service Catalogue

? Write and review Infrastructure Architecture Designs, approved by the Solutions Architecture Board (SAB)

? Manage relationships across HSBC IT Architecture, IT Infrastructure Delivery and Global Utilities Application Development team areas on an on-going basis

? Keep up to date with business strategies & road maps; technology roadmaps and feeding wider business IT requirements into central infrastructure engineering and strategy teams

? Use knowledge of the business, applications and infrastructure to make pro-active recommendations where improvements can be made

The role focuses on both Architecture:

? Determine business requirement and influence solution towards Infrastructure future state model

? Gauge strategic impact to business function, impacted upstream and downstream services and subsequent technology footprint

? Ensure logical design contributes to technology objectives

? Examine potential demise opportunities and propose deployment options

? Consider service placement requirements

And Design:

? Delivering end to end technical infrastructure designs, ensuring Non-Functional Requirements are realised and validated

? Verify impact to adjacent services/systems and Validate deployment and support model

? Qualify technical acceptance of all components

? Review design and gain approval via Solutions Architecture Board

? Optimise commercials and approval

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications

Have a system engineering background and the ability to compare and contrast different solutions to meet a business requirement. Provide technical thought leadership in evaluation of new technologies to meet business requirements and influence key stakeholders leading to adoption. Have in-depth conceptual functional and non-functional

knowledge of qualifications

? Automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Terraform)

? Server Operating systems internals, benchmarking and performance tuning (Linux, Windows, Solaris), Server Virtulization (VMware, Xen, Hyper-V, KVM)

? Storage (EMC SAN – FC, FCoE, iSCSI, SRDF; NetApp NAS - CIFS, NFS; Object storage)

? Databases (Oracle & MS SQL; VCS & MSCS)

? Collaboration tools (Confluence, Jira)

Business

Have a good understanding of the Global Utilities business. Able to translate business needs into appropriate IT solutions.

Technical

? Cloud technologies: (Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure; Mulesoft; App Dynamics)

? Container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)

? Databases (Oracle RAC, MS SQL, Sybase, Apache Hadoop & Hbase, MongoDB)

? Java/ Java GUI, XML/ XSLT, HTML/ Java Script

? Infrastructure as Code
