Summary

The Microsoft SCOM Specialist is responsible for the health and operations of Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) systems, and the design of monitoring applications according to business needs. We are looking for a person who has in-depth knowledge about Microsoft SCOM and a solid experience in Management Pack authoring and development, to support technically and organizationally complex environments with different monitoring needs.

Mission

The main responsibilities and routine tasks of the Microsoft SCOM Specialist are to:

· Responsible for the proper daily operations of the Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) servers, which including but not limited to:

o Ensure good health of the SCOM RMS, management servers, gateways and agents;

o Test and deploy management packs, monitoring apps and configuration of synthetic transactions

o Configure threshold changes based on client requests;

o Create and maintain notification subscriptions;

o Participate to the backups and restoration of Microsoft SCOM servers;

o Advanced troubleshooting of emergency situations on SCOM and other IT services, must be able to work flexible hours and overtime as required;

o Perform system & application patching;

· Maintain documentation regarding configurations, operations and troubleshooting procedures;

· Participate to the definition of standards, guidelines, best practices and metrics as directed;

· Participate in various change, incident and project related meetings as required;

· Assist in evaluating new requirements, technical design and standards;

· Answer user's query and service requests;

· Carry out all other related tasks.

Training

A Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics or a related field.

Relevant experience

3+ years of experience in Microsoft SCOM/MOM administration in a 300+ servers environment.

Skills

· Oral and Written Comprehension of English

· Skill in developing techniques and methodologies to resolve unprecedented problems or situations.

· Must be a self-starter that requires only limited supervision/guidance

· Honesty, integrity and confidentiality must be maintained at all times.

· Be a team player

· Have good interpersonal communication skills

· Ability to work effectively in a fast paced changing environment

· Ability to multi-task and prioritize

Knowledge

· Deep knowledge of the SCOM service model and its usage (classes, relationships, referenced classes, discoveries)

· Deep knowledge in SCOM Management Pack development (Authoring console + XML level)

· Able to create monitoring modules if needed.

· Able to translate business application monitoring needs into Distributed application.

· Possesses deep technical skills in PowerShell

· Familiarity with SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) / be able to create custom reports.

· Familiarity with Savision Livemaps authoring tools

· Has linux monitoring experience with SCOM

· Certification MCSE/MCITP (advantage)

· General knowledge of Cisco network equipment, routers and switches. A good knowledge of Internet technologies and concepts such as DNS, routing protocols, TCP and UDP and higher level protocols such as HTTP, SMTP and FTP is important

· Good knowledge of Windows 2008/2003 Server

· Good knowledge of Exchange 2007 and Active Directory

· Knowledge of IIS and SharePoint

· Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server

· General knowledge of Linux
