BACKGROUND TO THE VACANCY

In the past 12 months, C&T has been analysing its position in key growth markets. It is clear that China is a very large potential market for C&T which is currently underexploited.

The Chinese market is currently dominated by domestic producers who enjoy approximately 60% market share (value) mainly in plastic matrix. The other large player at the higher end of the pricing scale is CITO, our main worldwide competitor, who sells predominantly pressboard matrix.

C&T's current position in China has been flat for the past 5 years, with an estimated market share of 8%. All sales are currently directed through distributors which are managed from the UK office. Each distributor takes a different brand, allowing C&T to deal with various distributor partners. There are no direct end user accounts to date.

In 2011, Plastics Capital opened a subsidiary office in Shanghai to assist the growth of BNL, one of the other group companies. The next stage of this development is to appoint a local sales person for C&T, who will be based in the same office. There will also be the possibility of holding local stock in Shanghai.

C&T have ambitious plans to capture greater market share in China, something which we believe will require local resources in order to be successful. This person will enable C&T to more effectively manage the Chinese distribution network as well as seek out new opportunities for direct business to end users.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Sales Manager - China

Reports to: MD, C&T Matrix

Number of Direct Reports: 1 (technician tbc)

Principle responsibilities and accountabilities:

Maintain and develop business with current distributors across China, offering support at head office and branch office levels across the country
Seek alternative distribution model for Trimplex range of products
Particular attention in 2012/13 to be paid to launch of Channel products through our newly appointed distributor,Grandcorp
Actively seek out new direct business opportunities with large end users who wish to deal directly with the manufacturer
Joint calls and training with sales personnel of national and regional distributors
Agree targets with key distributors and monitor performance on a monthly basis
Prepare both annual and long range sales forecasts based on current business, future growth requirements, new product / market developments, and maximum market potential
Develop database of large end user accounts and improve market intelligence of end user pricing and volumes
Produce a monthly report detailing territory activity, potential customers, key accounts, KPI's and competitive information.
Manage local stocking requirements according to customer needs
Responsible for local pricing strategies

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

Candidate will have a track record of sales, min 5-8 years sales experience, ideally within the packaging consumable arena
Bachelor degree in burliness or related is required for the role

Experience of distributor management is essential.
Business development and sales skills -must have the ability to develop new business as well as managing established accounts. Evidence and examples of this will be required
Fluent in English - written and spoken
Some experience of P&L management would be desirable
Willingness to travel extensively
Excellent communicator and ability to deal with people both at managerial and operator level is key
