Position Objective:
The Product Development Manager will be responsible for participating leading the entire product development and merchandising process including collaborating with Product Managers in the New York office and design team based in Shanghai and Manila on new product trends and developments. You will be expected to play a key support role helping drive new product development within our established vendor base in collaboration with the Merchandise Manager.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Drive the development process from receipt of the Art work to production delivery for assigned products, with an emphasis on quality product engineering and timely completion of all tasks, including sampling, implementation and review pre-production sample in accordance with the operating calendars.
? Collaborate closely with the various stakeholders – New York Office Product Management Team & Design Team to drive new development and monitor the whole process.
? Manage the feasibility, completeness and clarity of marketing sample liaising closely with Vendors. Review the marketing sample with New York office Product Management Team in the context of intended use of product, cost negotiation, materials specs, capability, etc. Feedback vendor’s input to NYO Product Management team & design team as appropriate.
? Lead the development process ensuring workable prototypes are created which address desired function, cost, market appeal and manufacturability, including checking for quality, size, construction, and adherence to standards providing options and recommendations to make improvements in the sample process.
? Review, analyze and validate costing information throughout the entire Product Development process. Ensure compliance to agreed standards. Negotiate with vendor as needed.
? Ensure that all marketing samples are produced accurately, and are shipped on time.
? Work collaboratively with other operation department - materials, production, costing and quality assurance teams etc. to help them transit smoothly.
? Drive for effective problem solving and continuous improvement.
? Ensure timely resolution of production issues working collaboratively with materials, production, costing and quality in order to reach quality and deliver objectives.
? Ensure accurate and timely updates of the ERP system where applicable.
Education, Work Experience & Special Skills/Licenses
? 8+ years’ experience in general merchandising with an emphasis on new Product Development with an aptitude to leading and managing others.
? Prior fashion and/or fast fashion experience in a trading company or Asia sourcing office for a U.S. brand is required.
? Proven ability to collaboratively partner with remote based product development and design teams in the U.S. to create new products
? A creative thinker who is able to analyze business and product trends to develop business in new directions and in new categories.
? Strong product costing experience with demonstrated effective negotiating skills.
? Must have strong relationship building skills.
? Demonstrated ability to work in a proactively in a diverse and inclusive organization.
? Proven skills in business and operation management with a strong attention to detail.
? Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills (English and Mandarin).
? Effective, solution - oriented, problem solving and mediation skills.
? Demonstrated ability developing co-workers and subordinates through sharing skills and knowledge with others.
? Strong computer skills with an emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint. ERP experience a big plus.
