-PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

perform routine and non-routine quality control testing on a wide range of biochemical products, assisti in the troubleshooting process to resolve problems, participate in process improvement, and contribute to support functions of quality control laboratory.


-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1, Schedule, set-up, and perform routine and non-routine quality control testing on a wide of biochemical products.
- Review protocol and set-up assays according to priority level.
- Determine chemicals and quantities needed.
- Select and prepare appropriate equipment and/or instrumentation.
- Accurately perform procedure independently and make minor and major adjustments to protocol as needed.
- Accurately interpret results using advanced chemical and mathematical knowledge. Prepare complete, accurate and legible batch records.
- Identify problems and limitations of analysis due to instrumental and chemical interferences or inaccuracies.
- Complete volume of work required to achieve group/departmental goal and meet deadlines.
- Prepare and complete written procedures as needed.

2 Document and communicate status of assays and results.
- Interpret results accurately.
- Communicate any aberrant observations with assay or assay results. Decide if adjustments are necessary.
- Prepare accurate, complete, and legible records in accordance with established procedures.
- Maintain procedures up-to-date by making appropriate changes in written protocols when needed.
- Prepare and complete written procedures as needed.
- Lead out of specification investigation when needed.

3 Contribute to the support functions of the laboratory.
- Act as safety coordinator in quality control laboratory.
- Ensure lab supplies are adequately stocked.
- Prepare testing reagents (e.g. buffers, gels, standards, etc.) as needed.
- Maintain (clean, calibrate, etc.) equipment. Properly document and notify appropriate individuals if calibration is overdue.
- Maintain a clean work area and properly dispose of waste.
- Perform other group responsibilities thoroughly and on time.

4 Train personnel. Act as technical consultant as needed.
- Train personnel on instruments and techniques by supplying sufficient demonstration, theory and support.
- Provide technical support to personnel to assist in problem solving and career development.
- Supply information based on experience and knowledge.

5 Quality Expectations
- Ensure worksheets and other quality documents accurately reflect current procedure. Document procedures with appropriate technical detail in writing as directed by manager.
- Notify manager of any deviation from current procedure.
- Utilize system of quality documents for recording maintenance, calibration and usage of equipment and instruments as directed by manager.
- Properly label chemicals and reagents with all needed quality documentation.
- Participate as needed in quality audits including preparation of responses to questions.
- Successfully complete required quality training.
- Write and review drafts of quality procedures as directed by manager.
- Provide final review of quality procedures as directed by manager.
- Provide review of quality of other analyst's work compared to established requirements.
- Assist in the design and documentation of methods to support product testing.
- Participate on technical review of methods, systems, lab operations, results, problems and issues.
- Provide guidance in resolving the obstacles to quality improvements in line with scientific and regulatory guidelines.
- Record quality observations in databases as directed by manager to aid in quality improvement efforts.

Education: MS Sciences or BS/BA in Life or Physical Sciences or equivalent.

Experience: Required 5 years experience for MS or 8 years experience for BS/BA.
Desired 5 years quality control or analytical laboratory program.

Qualification: Familiarity with analytical instrumentation such as: HPLC, UV-VIS, GC, AA, ICP, CHNS,
GC/MS, LC/MS, DSC, Wet Chemistry techniques, pH, Karl Fischer, ACS testing methods,
and other analytical techniques
