Position Overview
WD-40 Company is expanding our marketing team. We are looking for a self-directed, analytical Product Specialist to champion New Product Development(NPD)planning and implement across China. This key role in our NPD Team will be responsible for making sure new product projects achieve key performance indicators in collaboration with cross functional team members.
Specifically, the role will champion all product management projects to include conducting market research to gather data intelligence and provide well considered new product recommendations. In addition, the role will create product pre-launch and launch programs to achieve key performance and company goals.
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Strategy: Support Marketing Manager to achieve EBITDA and Sales goals by championing new product development, analysis, launch plan development and implementation and product management.
2. Research: Responsible for research and market intelligence, including category and product development and marketing communication. Collaborates closely with other tribe members to generate and collect new product ideas and achieve strategic goals. Visit market to research competitor's information, conduct market survey, customer survey, gather industry data and provide a new product opportunity identification report.
3. Plan: Support new product idea generation/product renovation through market analysis, technical aptitude, and abilities to find and utilize trends, customer, market, and financial information, following established NPD processes. Substantiate profitable new product opportunities through sound business cases with manager's guidance. Provides financial projections, and competitive intelligence that influences pricing, promotion, packaging and merchandising decisions.
4. NPD: Owns all marketing related NPD works and processes for both renovation and innovation new products, including but not limited to research, market intelligence, product strategy recommendations, forecasts, packaging development, artwork development, pricing recommendations, new product launch analysis and tracking etc. Liaises for design agency management and development.
5. New product marketing: Support Marketing Manager on the pre-launch/launch strategy, planning process and execution process. Collaborating with marketing members to provide ideas for the creation of launch plans including positioning, messaging, marketing material, communication plan, PR, metrics, customer and sales training,
6. Proactively acquires new packaging and converting technologies for consumer goods and be the subject matters expert of relating technologies. Ensures visibilities of long-term evolution and development of packaging technologies, including but not limited to aerosol and liquid packages.
7. Collaborates with NPD Team members to achieve quality, cost, and time goals of each NPD project. Liaises and collaborates with NPD teams in other countries around the world to maximize the learning, best practices, and synergies.
8. Supports product portfolio management and analysis, collect raw data from multiple sources, monitor brands, skus sales, product P&L and inventory trends, generate analysis reports and recommendation regularly for leaders.
9. Work closely with key vendors to make sure all assignments run smoothly, build, maintain and manage positive relationship with all interactions, including customers, end-users, agency, packaging suppliers, and especially etc. make sure vendors provide high performance.
10. Responsible for building, analyzing, maintaining, and managing the database of targeted markets and customers, including information from trade show, sales reports, industry intelligence etc, establishing internal sales and market intelligence database . Manages the internal intelligence database appropriately, collect information and data through defined or new source, update into database and generate relative reports regularly to support leader on decision making.
Minimum Requirements:
Background& Expertise: Minimum of 3 years professional experience in consumer package goods(CPG)product development, ideally in industry, hardware, chemical and oil. Be able to work independently with entrepreneur spirit, has strong project management experience, strong data analysis; has broad business and market knowledge in industrial, hardware, automotive, or consumer packaged goods industries. Understands marketing strategies and paths to market.
Education Completed: Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, or relevant filed. Master degree preferred.
Language: Be able to use English as work language, CET-6 or equivalent degree is necessary.
Computer Literacy: Intermediate level user of Microsoft Office applications, especially good in Excel.
Physical: Must be able to access and function within areas key to productivity. Adequate manual dexterity to operate assigned and shared office equipment. Ability to travel on periodic overnight and extended stays, and work extended hours when necessary.
Travel Requirements:
Travel up to 20% to the whole country as needed.
