PRIMARY FUNCTION

Partner with Fabric Suppliers in the creation of innovative, brand-right fabrics for use in A&A garments. Work with suppliers to understand and execute fabric specifications for use in technical fabric packets that result in the expedited approval of product. Ensure compliance to Target performance protocols, initiate development testing and manage the evaluation and approval process on all development fabrications. Provide technical fabric guidance to Fabric Suppliers, Merchandise Vendors, Global Fabric Sourcing and Garment Sourcing Teams in support of the Apparel & Accessories PD&D process. Model implementing fabric development initiatives to deliver superior product and drive incremental sales.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 

1. Research
? Maintain a proficient knowledge of government requirements, safety protocols and Target performance standards for textiles and assigned categories in particular
? Drive the understanding of benchmark’s performance standards and ensure Target meets or exceeds the competitor’s product for assigned categories
? Drive the communication of Targets standards to internal and external partners
? Model in providing expertise to Fabric Suppliers in achieving Target’s fabric standards
? Remain current in industry-leading textile practices and equipment advances in assigned categories
? Drive partnership with Suppliers, Fiber, Chemical companies, R&D Specialist and industry contacts to maintain fabric related awareness of trend , innovation and new technology including yarns, fabrics, manufacturing advances and applications for assigned categories
? Maintain working knowledge of Fabric Supplier’s capabilities

2. Fabric Development
? Model in providing expertise to ensure routing of efficient and effective development of fabric technical specifications to include as appropriate: yarn spinning method,weave construction (ends and picks), weave process, knit process, dyeing/finishing (fabric and garment state) and printing processes to comply with stated performance standards for end use
? Partner with Fabric Suppliers in the development of apparel fabrications that continuously exceeds guest expectations, align to assortment pricing strategies, maintains consistency in brand quality across product categories and supports ongoing innovation and differentiation of the brand
? Manage the on-line (Product Lifecycle Management) and physical libraries for assigned categories with all approved fabric specifications for use
? Model the management of technical approval process with Suppliers, ensuring appropriate and timely Virtual Review submissions and validating development testing results
? Provide timely resolution to all issues relating to fabric development of apparel fabrications
? Drive Standard Fabric Menus for assigned categories. Guide Fabric Sourcing & Garment Sourcing in optimal utilization of the Standardized fabrications
? Provide technical expertise, as needed, for Engineering Team, Global Fabric Sourcing & Garment Sourcing teams
? Liaison with Color teams as appropriate to support effective and efficient product development

3. TRAINING
? Impart training for Fabric Teams and Cross Functional Teams as needed to communicate best methods or elevate fabric knowledge
? Lead development and training for Supplier Fabric Manager Training regarding Target’s fabric development or quality processes and expectations
? Run reporting to understand and elevate Fabric Supplier Performance and identify training needs

4. TEAM
? Effectively manage workload and establish pro-active timing and action for self and team
? Drive and implement effective onboarding of new team members
? Establish and foster a culture that will attract and retain a world class team and allow them to grow and flourish.
? Implement team development plans that elevate skills improve teamwork and performance
? Partner with Sr. to drive a heightened focus on talent development through use of coaching and mentoring plans, rotational and stretch assignments and robust training at each level

JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

? 4 year degree in Textiles or equivalent work experience
? 3-5+ years experience in textile manufacturing or development
? Proficient technical knowledge of yarn spinning and processing, weaving and knitting processes, fabric dyeing, printing and finishing
? Strong understanding in the manufacture (cut and sew) of apparel garments
? Moderate domestic or international travel
