Job Title: Lab Technician, Functional Material
Reports to: Application Development Technical Service Manager, APAC


The Challenge
? Lab technicians will learn safe laboratory practices and will learn how to make small laboratory samples for evaluation. The associate will also learn how to characterize UV coatings using physical and analytical test methods. The associate will work directly with other technicians, chemists and laboratory associates regarding proper laboratory notebook usage and laboratory techniques for making, preparing, and testing UV curable coatings.
? DSM Functional Materials Research and Development Department is responsive to the needs of customers, receptive of the requests of suppliers and is conscious of competitors. R & D operates in a technologically driven market with a heavy competitive patent environment.
? Operate laboratory equipment, UV curing machinery, and physical & analytical instruments for making, preparing, and testing lab samples.
? Understand more about instruments and how they work.
? Perform routine analysis according to written test methods and write modifications as needed.
? Record all laboratory work conducted on projects and experiments in laboratory notebook per policy.
? Perform simple mathematical calculations and understand basic statistics.
? Follow policy for labeling all materials with proper identification and expiration.
? Request needed laboratory supplies and raw materials necessary for projects and experiments.
? Maintain effective communication with supervisor and chemists.
? Understand customer comments, ideas, problems and goals.
? Give direction to lab technicians as needed.
? Follow laboratory safety practices in accordance with SHE policies and procedures.
? Issue requests for submitting samples for testing and logout of commercial samples.

? Write SOS cards in support of Behavior Based Safety.
? Complete Peer to Peer Observations in accordance with the annually published schedule.
? Attend required SHE related training.
? Participate in periodic comprehensive SHE inspections as required by Department Management.
? Comply with all SHE policies and procedures.
? Understand and follow the BG Resins Cardinal Rules.
? Understand and follow the BG Resins SHE Critical procedures:

? Assure that the SHE objectives, -plans and –requirements are communicated and understood throughout the organization.
? Participates in the annual review of the site SHE Plans, which include the regular auditing and reviewing of all SHE aspects in such a way that all aspects are regularly reviewed and audited.
? Assures that the organization will learn from its incidents. Incidents will be investigated, possible improvements (and incidents) are reported and the risks of the work are assessed regularly/routinely.
? Show SHE leadership by setting standards and encouraging employees to act (SHE) responsible for their well-being.
? Responsible for the effectiveness of training on the SHE Critical procedures throughout the
? Makes sure that the SHE objectives, -plans and -requirements are communicated and understood in the organization the jobholder is responsible for.
? Supports and/or organizes involvement of employees setting up and reviewing SHE-plans and –requirements, -procedures and –instructions.
? Makes sure that the competences of the employees are sufficient to let them do their task in a SHE responsible way. Provides the necessary training.
? Supervises the employees in such a way that it is assured that people know what they have to know and can do, to do their job in a (SHE) responsible way
? Participates in the annual review of the site SHE Plan, which includes the regular auditing and reviewing of all SHE aspects in such a way that all aspects are regularly reviewed and audited.
? Shows real SHE leadership by setting standards and encouraging his/hers employees to act (SHE) responsible for their well-being and organizes involvement in the plans.
? Encourages colleagues and management to improve SHE results and prevent incidents
? Makes sure that/encourages the organization to be in compliance with requirements and legislation.
? Follows instructions and procedures.

The Ideal
? Prefer Associates Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Material Science or Chemical Technology related field with 6 months –2 years of previous experience. 举报 分享
