Job Title: Category Manager – Physical Distribution

The Challenge
? Initiating, leading, and coordinating projects of logistics and packaging; implement and realize the strategy in Physical Distribution Category, within corporate requirements and guidelines, in order to ensure results on all KPI’s as defined with BG’s/Sites, and to contribute to the overall result of DSM.
? DSM Sourcing is a professional organization supporting DSM businesses to generate sustainable profit by developing, coordinating, and executing state of art purchasing processes on a Global scale.
? DSM Sourcing Indirect, part of DSM Sourcing, is an integrated global Purchasing organization for indirect goods and services. With central steering and regional service, we will realize the associated benefits:
? Close cooperation with the BG/SU customers (customer focus)
? Substantial savings that hit the EBIT line
? An attractive professional environment to work in (value adding business partner working in one global team at a world class cost level
? The spend is covering technical goods & services, capital expenditure, facility goods & services, ICT and physical distribution, representing roughly 1.5 billion Euro.
? The focus for the Category Manager is on building expertise for his/her Category, enforcing and sharing of best practices, maximum fit for his customers and innovative contracts with his suppliers, using a significant reduced supplier base.
The Position
Key areas of accountability/responsibility:
? Initiating, leading and coordinating sourcing projects of logistics and packaging
? Identify opportunities for improvement in coordination & packaging and align with stakeholders
? Initiate and manage sourcing projects to find solutions to support business’ needs and improve supplier service quality/costs
? Accountable for internal and external analysis for sourcing team
? Define and lead single or multi BG cross-functional sourcing teams
? Act as contact point for the supplier and internal customers
? Provide team members with direction and support throughout the steps and activities of the strategic sourcing process
? Manage and facilitate the collaboration within the cross-functional sourcing team
? Prepare and lead fact based negotiation and select supplier
? Responsible for contracting process
? Lead contract implementation and resolve issues
? Evaluate and renew contract by identifying and prioritizing opportunities for reduction of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).Ensure use of strategic sourcing methodology (SSM) and best practices.
? Manage and develop PD supplier
? Track pro-actively cost saving programs with supplier
? Continuously assess opportunities and implement actions defined to improve supplier performance together with contract manager
? Implement supplier development activities as defined in the (cross-functional) review meetings with suppliers in order to improve performance and further reduce cost
? Initiate and conduct key supplier audits
? Implement strategic key supplier management program (KSM)
? To secure key elements of the SDP (security of supply, competitiveness, quality/compliance, sustainability, innovation/technical improvements, business commitment) in DSM’s agreements with third parties
? Define and implement (strategic) supplier management process.
? Manage collaboration, knowledge sharing and proper communication within category by providing deep category expertise and ensure the use of standardized processes.
? Be a challenger in the different Sourcing teams
? Validate the decision documents:
? Provide expert input on the key milestone meetings
? Be a key person for the discussion of issues
? Manage the standardized way of working across the categories
? Manage relationship with internal customers during projects
? Collect and manage internal customers feedback on the sourcing process to identify further TCO reduction opportunities
? Improve and reinforce the DSM Purchasing profile and recognition within the internal customer community
? Quality, Health, Safety and Environment
? Ensure a QHSE policy and organization, in line with DSM guidelines and systems, in order to meet legal obligations, guarantee the quality of processes and products, ensure a safe and healthy working place for employees.

? Manage and maintain Approved Vendor List.
? Conclude and implement contracts within proxy
Complexity of the position
? Generating the results on customer satisfaction, savings, cash, compliance, supplier base and risk reduction, requires simultaneous managing BG, Site and DSM deliverables in short and long-term perspective, and of course being involved in an early stage.
? Leading complex cross-functional / multi BG teams, participating with different objectives.
? Deep understanding of internal customers and local practices to enable professional contract implementation; alignment with BG-SG/Stakeholders
? Contract implementation, contributing to value realization, streamlining, and optimizing the purchasing processes.
? Driving the change of centrally led, centrally owned and local present Logistics Spend, requires state of art structure, systems, and people, who continuously establish and confirm a “buy-in” from their customers and influence their customers behavior (compliance).
? The diversity of businesses, stakeholders, markets, regions, cultures, distances, and level of development in Purchasing, requires a centrally driven, but regional supportive approach.
The Ideal
? Tertiary qualifications, preferably in business administration, commerce, supply chain or other relevant discipline.
? Recognized qualification in Purchasing/Logistics/Supply Chain.
? Substantial professional experience (>8-10 yrs.) in Purchasing/Logistics/Supply Chain
? Deep understanding and knowledge of business needs
? Preferably working experience in chemical industry
? In-depth knowledge of the Category in terms of products, services and contracts.
? In-depth knowledge of Indirect Spend in terms of business dynamics, markets, innovation requirements and growth opportunities.
? Knowledge of DSM global businesses
