Job Title: Application Development Engineer
Business Group/Unit: DSM Innovation Center B.V. (DIC)
Service Group/Unit: DSM Advanced Solar
Key areas of accountability/responsibility
？ Application Development
? Within agreed business strategy, to support evaluation and processing of DSM backsheets;
? To lead or support application and customer trouble-shootings activities, or projects by working closely with TSE and RT&D colleagues.
? To propose improvements for DSM backsheets, and (jointly) verify or implement such improvements when needed;
? To further build or improve test capabilities and procedure in Shanghai lab by applying industrial standards, customer needs and internal process;
? To standardize the test methods and align with EU AD group and 3rd certification institutes.
? To track and trace properties and performance of DSM backsheets both indoor and outdoor;
? To watch customers and industry needs and advise further application and material developments;
? To summarize evaluation reports and propose to management, commercial, TS, RT&D and AD team.
？ Customer Support
? To support TSE for customer trouble-shoots when and where needed;
? To summarize evaluation and test reports and present both internally and externally.
？ Authorities
? Application and technology development.
? Contribution in projects when needed.

Complexity of the position
? New markets: DSM has limited knowledge of the customers, technology and the complexity.
? Market itself is in development (new outlook every 6 months or less) with high speed changes.
? Development process in a multitier environment.
? Lots of new functionalities and designs are going on which require fast response and deep understanding of markets and customers.
? Translating technical market demands into internal activities whilst being able to distinguish hypes from real trends.
? Conflicting business interests among competing customers.


The Position
The ADE contributes to application development activities needed in the different EBA ventures (new business development) as well as by business development (business in beta/commercial stage).
The purpose of the position is to:
? Within agreed business strategy, to support evaluation and processing of DSM backsheets;
? To lead or support application and customer trouble-shootings activities, or projects by working closely with TSE and RT&D colleagues.
? To propose improvements for DSM backsheets, and (jointly) verify or implement such improvements when needed;
? To further build or improve test capabilities and procedure in CN lab by applying industrial standards, customer needs and internal process;
? To standardize the test methods and align with EU AD group and 3rd certification institutes.
? To track and trace properties and performance of DSM backsheets both indoor and outdoor.
? To support TSE for customer trials when and where needed.
? To summarize evaluation and test reports and present both internally and externally.


The Ideal
? Technical MSc/PhD background (Polymer Materials Science & Engineering or Polymer Chemistry)
? Experience in application development and/or technical support with backsheets.
? Fluency in Chinese and English language is required.
? Good awareness and implementation on safety and quality regulations on DSM level.
? Good understanding of backsheets and processing
? Strong knowledge in his field of technical/scientific expertise, in depth knowledge of application development.
? Knowledge of quality systems
? Preferably with project management skills
? Persuasive, inspiring, able to convince others
? Well-developed risk approach (in line with innovative context)
? Ability to interact with external partners & customers
? Ability to work in a global team
? Proactivity and open minded
