ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead and manage the Research & Development Center in Shanghai, China. The Engineering Director is accountable for the performance of a rapidly expanding R&D organization that is developing products for the global water quality market, as well as products specifically targeted to the local China market. The successful candidate will be charged with building the premier water quality analytics organization in China, while delivering new products of superior quality to the required specification, on time, and within the prescribed cost target. This position will require close collaboration with Marketing, Business Units, Operations, and other -Lange Group R&D centers around the world. The position demands both technical expertise and team leadership.

Essential Functions:
? Ensures strict adherence to local laws and Danaher Integrity and Compliance standards by all members of the organization.
? Executes the vision of the China Design Center, setting its goals and objectives, and delivering on them.
? Builds an effective, efficient, and fast moving organization that can meet the needs of the rapidly changing China water analytics market.
? Hires talented associates in engineering and chemistry disciplines and leads them to be world-class experts in their field.
? Creates annual performance objectives and development plans for staff members to help them achieve their career goals, develop a strong talent and succession pool, and motivate a commitment to getting results.
? Inspires the team to greatness.
? Collaborates with business units and marketing to ensure that product specifications are clearly defined; and the desired product will meet the customer needs and be capable of achieving its sales and market share targets.
? Collaborates with operations, purchasing, and test engineering to ensure that the products developed are designed for manufacturability, testability, and have a robust supply chain.
? Participates in the Global Product Planning Group that prioritizes and schedules the development of Products worldwide.
? Builds strong relationships with customers, external water quality experts, universities and government regulatory agencies.
? Makes the good trade-offs between opportunity and risk that are expected of one with good business acumen and that are in alignment with the strategic objectives of the company.
? Manage the budget of the engineering organization in China, including the management of development contracts between and the Danaher Design Center.
? Travels as required
? Applies DBS tools when and where they make sense. Improves and adapts these tools as required to then needs of the China Engineering organization.


Education, Background, and Skill Requirements
? BS in Engineering or the physical sciences.
? Advanced degree preferred.
? Fluent in both Mandarin and English.
? Ten or more years in a product development or engineering environment.
? Experience working in a large multi-national company is preferred.
? Broad understanding of products and processes, including design, manufacturing, and market use of products.
? Possess five years minimum experience in the management of product development projects from concept through commercialization.
? Working knowledge of new product development methodologies.
? Knowledge and use of word processors, spreadsheets, databases, project scheduling tools, etc.
