GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY/PURPOSE:
TPS is part of the broader PDG organization and supports the execution of clinical studies through innovative evaluation, deployment and management of clinical and non-clinical systems and process by providing centralized, cross-system, process and training support. TPS is committed to being an industry leader in the management and innovation of training, process, systems and services and to maintaining and enhancing high quality services based on customer feedback and industry trends. Training Managers directly support TPS's vision and mission through development and delivery of training solutions to meet identified training needs. Training Managers consistently apply best practice instructional design, adult learning theory, facilitation and other relevant training methodologies to ensure value-added learning & development for PDG/PD. Training Managers are typically assigned their responsibilities by business area, work stream or varying projects, as business needs may dictate. As such, Training Managers must develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of cross-functional PDG/PD departments, varying areas of focus, roles and responsibilities. Accordingly, Training Managers work cross-functionally across PDG/PD, with other training groups, Information Technology (IT) and other Roche partners, as well as external vendor partners supporting the work of TPS, PDG or PD overall. They may also be standing or ad hoc members of various internal cross-functional work teams.

JOB DESCRIPTION - PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Cross-Functional Team Membership
· Participates in the relevant site and/or global Training departmental teams
· May act as a standing or ad hoc member in short-, medium- or long-term work teams. As needed and appropriate, addresses training- and/or project-specific questions; provides updates; delivers presentations; etc.

2. Training Planning & Development
· Stays abreast of internal and external developments, trends and other dynamics relevant to the work of TPS to maintain, at all times, a fully current view and perspective of internal/external influences and/or implications for assigned training areas, projects and/or other recurring and ad hoc responsibilities. Includes evaluating best practices for training, or other evolutions in adult learning to ensure PDG/PD management and staff are maximally equipped to achieve optimal job performance and productivity as well as generally contribute to employee well-being and morale
· Provides training expertise and consults with others to ensure training requirements/curricula meet the needs of a clinically-regulated environment
· Works closely with a host of cross-functional partners and stakeholders, including global TPS leadership, IT partners and others, to evaluate new, evolving or otherwise updated business strategies, plans, goals and objectives as these relate to existing PDG/PD training curricula, programs and other offerings versus new or otherwise updated training needs
· Collaborates with subject matter experts to assess and identify employee training needs:
o Manages incoming training requests and helps the business prioritize plans and activities

o Participates in and/or otherwise conducts training requirements gathering and needs analysis. Includes working effectively with cross-functional training departments and others to determine points of leverage with existing training, potential synergies, other needs or implications to support cross-functional teams with their projects and other recurring or ad hoc work
o Works with manager and other staff members to consolidate, analyze and synthesize training requests and other training needs analysis to determine new or enhanced training curricula, programs, materials, other training resources, delivery modes, etc.
o Works with manager and other staff members to develop and make appropriate recommendations to partners and stakeholders for new or enhanced training and other relevant resources. Including learning objectives, target audience, core content, delivery methodologies, time to develop and deliver, potential costs and other required resources, change management and change control requirements, etc.
· As assigned, supports research, design and development of new or otherwise enhanced training curricula, programs, instructional modules, manuals and other, additional training resources and materials using best practice instructional design principles and methodologies, including adult learning theory, interactive activities, and competency-based evaluations to ensure time spent in training is value-added. Designs, delivers and promotes training solutions in alignment with business objectives and audience requirements, e.g., effective use of instructor-led training, eLearning, web-based technologies and the like
· As needed or otherwise appropriate, also supports development and implementation of train-the-trainer sessions, materials and resources
· Participates in development, implementation and maintenance of training evaluation strategies, practices and tools to measure and report on the effectiveness of PDG/PD training solutions
· As assigned, supports manager and other Training management/staff in developing, implementing and maintaining Training policies, procedures, protocols, systems and tools for communicating/marketing offerings, scheduling and tracking training attendance as well as reporting on completion and other results
· Applies project management principles, processes, and tools to ensure on-time, on-target and within-budget delivery of training programs and projects

3. Training Operations/Administration
· Builds and develops strong, sustainable relationships with internal and external partners and stakeholders; working collaboratively with others to achieve common goals
· Partners with Systems Support Services to ensure Training databases are updated, current and accurate at all times to support ongoing training
· Serves as a key contact for Training across PDG for training materials, training sessions and other resources. Includes externally for clinical trial site staff and/or clinical research organizations (CROs)
· Delivers training and/or systems demonstrations in group and individual sessions. Includes all potential delivery modes involving instructor-led training
· Manages the training evaluation process for assigned training sessions. Expected to communicate outcomes in a timely and targeted manner; includes identifying and recommending opportunities to continuously enhance Training offerings
· Supports, as needed or otherwise appropriate, updates to TPS Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and/or Departmental Operating Procedures (DOPs)
· May also participate in identifying, negotiating and contracting with external partners supporting the work of Training
· May also, as assigned or otherwise requested, review or otherwise guide the work of external vendor partners
· Completes other routine and ad hoc analysis and reporting. Responsible to keep all internal customers, partners and stakeholders abreast of progress and interim updates. Does so by following prescribed departmental procedures, practices and protocols and by using standardized reporting and communications tools/templates and other resources
· Completes other special projects, as and when assigned, or otherwise requested
· Participates in routine and ad hoc departmental meetings and other business reviews or meetings to remain, at all times, fully abreast and apprised of evolving business needs and requirements. Expected to share best practices within the department and cross-functionally, identify and communicate ongoing opportunities for continuous improvement, training and operational excellence
· Consistently complies with all governing laws, regulations, Roche SOPs and other guidelines

SELECTION CRITERIA:
Candidates for this position should hold the following qualifications, have the following experience, and be able to demonstrate the following abilities to be considered as a suitable applicant. Please note that except where specified as "preferred," or as a "plus," all points listed below are considered minimum requirements.


QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
· Bachelors Degree required
· Advanced Degree in related field is preferred
· Advanced training professional certification is a plus
· Advanced experience in instructional design, development, delivery and measurement for adult learning with past experience in e-learning course development
· Understanding of learning principles/methodologies and application in a complex business environment. Includes experience using a training design/development process, i.e., ADDIE or equivalent
· Previous experience and/or exposure to and sufficient knowledge of clinical operations in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology or related industry
· Must demonstrate knowledge of, and/or training in, regulatory and system compliance
· Broad understanding of international regulations, processes and issues in drug development
· Advanced project management and process improvement skills
· Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and other applications. Strong computer graphic skills, including knowledge of latest computer graphics technologies is preferred
· Fluent English and other language skills as needed
· Knowledge of cultural differences and learning styles is a plus
