General Manager, China

Purpose of Role:
In this senior management role you will be responsible for adapting and implementing our China online/offline strategy, driving revenue growth and taking overall ownership of the country's revenue target. 

You will have management responsibility for all of Goodfellow’s activities and staff in China, providing day-to-day operational leadership to the business and leading the execution of the company's commercial strategy. Your key focus will be on building and strengthening the relationships with existing customers whilst establishing new relationships with key Chinese research institutes and universities, building out the company’s local online presence and raising brand profile, and on-boarding regional channel partners.

Leading from the front, you will take personal responsibility for working with the senior leadership team in the UK to ensure that Goodfellow’s strategy in China is in tune with our customers' needs while profitably growing the business and ensuring that the country is building repeat sales. 

Working closely with all stakeholders including senior executives you will provide the leadership and management required in building the sales pipeline, providing customer focus and local financial management, whilst complying with Group policies and also building out the local organization.

Main Responsibilities:
? Ensuring a total quality service to Goodfellow’s customers by effectively leading the office and ensuring that staff follow best practice and deliver to the highest standards. 
? Managing, directing and planning with all sales channels, both direct and indirect.
? Building, implementing, and overseeing all the company’s systems (both physical and electronic), processes, workflows, and procedures with a particular focus on overall revenue growth.
? Working in synergy with UK management to identify new growth opportunities and ways in which to improve our brand reputation and presence in China. 
? Achieve financial objectives by preparing and agreeing an annual budget with the Group CEO and Head of Finance, scheduling expenditure, analyzing variances, initiating corrective actions, and producing a detailed annual business operating plan. 
? Provide detail commentary and analysis of monthly, quarterly and annual operating and financial performance including P&L reports for revenue and cash. 
? Looking at product offering, key brands, and potential new customers in territory to build a country business plan helping the company achieve long-term, steady, sustainable growth. 
? Work with the UK Marketing team and local marketing agency in China (TBA) to research and discover methods to increase customer engagement.
? Streamlining supply chain and realizing efficiencies through implementing local inventory and procurement strategy to provide product to both local customers as well as to other Group companies.
? Recruiting and managing staff, including target and objective setting, performance monitoring, mentoring and training.

Skills, Knowledge and Attributes needed for the role
Education:
? Master’s Degree or above in Materials Science; MBA preferred
? Complete fluency in written and spoken Mandarin and English

? Extensive sales and/or business development skills and prior experience of taking ownership of a revenue target. 
? Extensive expertise in creating and implementing integrated marketing strategies to increase brand awareness. 
? Effective people management skills, and ability to engage varied audiences and inspire colleagues to perform at the highest levels. 
? Well-developed negotiation and conflict management skills. 

Knowledge:
? A demonstrable understanding of the Chinese market for metals and alloys, ceramics, polymers, composites and glasses, or experience within laboratory supply industries; priority will be given to those candidates with relationships and networks in Chinese academia and state Key Labs.
? An understanding of digital advertising and data, technology and the wider media market in China, with a special focus on e-Commerce, digital marketing, social media and SEO/SEM in order to collaborate with the Company’s chosen marketing partner.
? Commercially astute with a proven track record, ambitious and hungry for success.

Experience:
? Extensive experience working with partners at an executive level within a wide professional network in China.
? Experience in sales management, ideally gained in a similar type of organization. 
? Solid organisational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills. 
? Experience in a small/fast-growing company in the Chinese market and an understanding and appreciation of the challenges they face; this could be gained from having worked in a startup environment or having been involved with business development and new projects in a larger corporate environment. 
? Experience in inspiring and motivating teams to deliver exceptional performance in a new and growing commercially focused business.
? Proven experience in developing and leading initiatives to increase sales and profitability. 
? Complex stakeholder management in a commercial environment.
? Project management and oversight.
