Do you love science but feel that a career at the bench isn’t enough to sate your desire to learn more about the natural world? Do you find yourself reading papers outside your chosen area of research? If the answer is ‘yes’ to any of these questions, you could be the person we’re looking for to join the editorial team of the Nature Partner Journals.

Nature Partner Journals are high-quality, online-only subject-specific journals that bring Nature Research’s reputation for impact and excellence to open access. The Nature Partner Journals are characterized by landmark partnerships with high profile institutions, foundations and academic societies.

To help us to build on the success of this portfolio, we’re seeking a managing editor to be responsible for the editorial excellence of a subset of the journals, working closely with internationally renowned academic Editors-in-Chief and the editorial boards of the journals. The role also involves the support of the publishers in the development of new journals.

To be considered for the position, you will have:
· Research experience to PhD level (or equivalent) in a life or physical sciences discipline.
· Postdoctoral research experience is preferred.
· A passion for science and a thirst to learn more. You must be able to demonstrate the breadth of your interest in scientific research, both within and beyond your speciality.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be fluent in English (written and spoken).
· An awareness of the open access publishing landscape.
· A strong commitment to upholding the highest standards of ethical and editorial rigour.
· Be eager to travel and meet researchers worldwide, learn more about them and their research, and help them learn more about us and what we are looking for in the papers that we seek to publish.

The successful candidate will report to the Executive Editor of the portfolio and play an important role in developing their own journals within the portfolio. They will support and train external editors, advise on original research papers submitted from all over the world, and work closely with other external and Nature Research editors on all aspects of the editorial process. Editorial experience is not required, although applicants with significant editorial experience are encouraged to apply and will potentially be considered for a Senior Managing Editor position.

The position is offered on a full-time, permanent basis, and will be located in our London, New York or Shanghai office.
