The Chinese Vice Principal role is a key leadership position within the school and requires the person to work in close consultation with the Co-Principals and staff. Reporting to the Co-Principals, the Chinese Vice Principal’s major function is to assist the Co-Principals with ensuring that administrative procedures are in place to facilitate the efficient running of the school and that learning programmes are being effectively implemented according to school policies. Working closely with the Coordinators and the Heads of Department, the Chinese Vice Principal’s focus is on delivering the promises of the Philosophy and Objectives and the mission of Yew Wah International Education Schools.
The following summarizes the main duties of the Chinese Vice Principal,
A. Staff Supervision and Support
? Deputize for the Co-Principals in their absence.
? Work with the Co-Principals and Coordinators to identify staffing needs for the school. Assist the Co-Principals, when called upon, in the interviewing of potential candidates.
? Help monitor that all staff carry out their supervision duties, including lesson preparation and delivery, the timely marking of student work, the accurate recording of marks in PowerSchool, and the submission of high-quality semester comments.
? Assist the Co-Principals in appraising the Coordinators, Heads of Department and the teachers, including lesson observations and writing up reports.
? Review daily cover for absent teachers, assigning internal coverage or arranging for outside supply teachers as needed.
? Bring to the notice of the leadership any concerns over the professional conduct of a teacher including negligence or any concern about staff relationships, teacher/parent, or teacher/student relationships.
? Takes the lead in the organization of new staff orientation days, professional development days during the school year, and the final days for staff.
? Chair a number of committee meetings.
B. Instructional Coordination
? Assist in identifying broad annual professional development goals for the teaching staff. Make recommendations accordingly to the Co-Principals
? Provide ongoing support for the staff new to the school.
? Coordinate and advise teaching staff on required stages of curriculum development.
? Keep the Co-Principals up to date on the senior curriculum, including the latest development of pedagogy, IGCSE and A Level.
? Together with the Coordinators and Heads of Department, analyze effectiveness of instruction at each year level, identify areas for improvement, and make recommendations for improvement.
? Assist with the review of student reports.
C. Student Life
? In association with other administrators in the school, take responsibility for the welfare and discipline of the students. When called upon to lead certain investigations, insure that all documentation and evidence is complete and accurate and letters to students and parents are thorough and precise.
? Monitor procedures at play, lunchtime, wet play, study hall, and sleeping time, when necessary, consult with other leaders to implement appropriate changes to procedures.
? Be responsible, in consultation with the leadership of the school, for special events and the appointment of special coordinators when necessary.
D. Resources
? Assist the Co-Principals in the review of yearly budgets to insure accuracy and accountability. Approve spending requests up to the amount specified by the accounting rules of the Foundation.
? Make recommendation to the Co-Principals for special budget expenditures and significant spending initiative which would improve the school.
Help acquire necessary resources through liaison with the Co-Principals and other members of staff. This includes teaching aids, furniture, subject equipment and consumables.
? Review all publications of the school and its departments for consistency and image prior to their submission to the Co-Principals
? Review all stationary supplies orders before the requests are submitted to the Co-Principals.
Skills/qualifications:
? Holder of Bachelor Degree in relevant subject with teaching certificate or license
? Minimum 3 years of working in an administrative capacity at a national, private, or international school
? Support Yew Wah's values
? Demonstrated passion for international education
? Excellent communication skills and a public presence which engenders respect and trust from students and parents is a must
? Detail-oriented person with excellent time management and editing skills
? Possess a vision of the “big picture” of the school and the need for all departments to work together for the good of the students.
