MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Strategic and Corporate Initiatives
1). Actively participate in the strategy planning process by preparing and presenting technical information to include BASF and competitive information, market intelligence, and assesment.
2). Actively participate as member of Automotive Refinish Leadership team in Asia Pacific
3). Ensure business strategy is effectively communicated and implemented throughout technical organization
4). Fully support business and corporate initiatives throughout the technical organization
2. Technical Management
1). Manage the technical & color efforts across Asia Pacific
2). Represent the Asia Pacific Refinish Coatings business with all global coatings businesses
3). Direct activities in product development, color science, and manufacturing support
4). Ensure product portfolio alignment with SBU marketing strategy
5). Develop multi-year product plans to support customer requirements and drive innovation
3. Personnel Management
1). Prepare requisitions, conduct interviews, and select candidates for technical positions
2). Manage career, talent management, review, and discipline issues with staff
3). Ensure compliance with all company policies for staff
4. Communication, Collaboration, & Industry Initiatives
1). Effectively communicate strategy and corporate initiatives to the technical community
2). Communicate effectively with other functions and regions
3). Provide technical presentations at various customer forums
4). Attend industry events, representing BASF Automotive Refinish Coatings
5). Actively participate in global and regional meetings - representing ECA/R technology areas
5. Safety
1). Promote and provide safe and healthy working environment for all employees
2). Ensure all employees adhere to proper PPE requirements
3). Ensure proper incident reporting
4). Adhere to quality systems and processes
6. Travel
1). Must be able to travel to multiple countries
2). Effectively utilize non-meeting travel time (airports, hotel, etc) to conduct administrative duties


REQUIREMENTS:
1. Education: University degree, Organic Chemistry or coatings development -- advance degree preferred.
2. Experience:
1). Must: 5-10 years experience automotive coatings or automotive refinish coatings preferred
2). Must: The ability to understand the chemistry of products and application requirements, and 5 years experience managing technical group 10+ persons.
3). Must: Business level English, Skills of standard software (Excel, PPT, Word, Lotus Notes)
Preferred: knowledge in coatings, automotive aftermarket or distribution industries, and project management experience
