Essential Job Functions
? Responsible for developing and executing a plan to support business growth through technology platforms along with future product platform improvements to meet upcoming business requirements
? Ensures the capability / infrastructure are sufficient to meet plan requirements, makes recommendations, drives continuous improvement and change
? Assesses, sources and manages external technology to meet global technical needs
? Supervises staff to include hiring, training, managing and evaluating performance, providing compensation recommendations, career development and administering disciplinary action if necessary
? Ensures lab safety, intellectual property protection and product/regulatory compliance.
? Presents technology, product, and application information to internal and external customers; customers are strategic in nature
? Assists senior management with integrating an overall technology, science and product strategy.
? Proactively influences other departments within Global Wood on the necessary processes and procedures related to the success of the business unit relative to technology issues.
? Drives the use of design tools and the integration of LSS procedures and methology within the group.
? Interfaces routinely with the Wood NA technical director identifying technology share, resource share, raw material use and consolidation, cost savings and application resource opportunities. With the Wood NA technical director drive monthly communication conferences with the Global Wood team.
Qualifications
? BS and above from a university recognized for its strong education in chemistry and materials science
? 15 years min experience in coatings R&D and commercialization success in an industrial environment, preferably with a global company, and with broad exposure to a range of related technologies (solventborne, waterborne, radiation cure, , process chemistry, polymer development, ...). International assignment / living experience preferred. Global Wood business commercialization experience and detailed technology platform understanding a plus.
? 7 years min experience in a leadership role, including experience building a team, coaching for successful employee career development, global and cross-functional engagement in a position of influence
? Demonstrated track record of significant achievements through individual and group efforts, including major program execution in a leadership role
? Good writing and speaking communication skills with fluency in both English and Mandarin Chinese.
? Leadership ability to engage and influence staff and business colleagues
? Demonstrated ability to work effectively engaged the global research community and experience in leading a global research platform is highly desirable
? Demonstrated project management and design skills. LSS understanding including DfLSS and green belt certification a plus.
? Good lab safety management
? Excellent record and experience with intellectual property protection
