Role Summary/Purpose

Educational Background: • 2-5 yrs Masters or 5-6 yr bachelor in Mechanical Engineering, Polymers/Plastics Engineering or Materials Engineering. • Experience in some form of plastics secondary operations processing (part fabrication or decoration) including ultrasonic welding, laser welding, vibration welding, painting, electro-plating, vacuum deposition. • Solid understanding of standard plastics property testing methods (ISO, ASTM, JIS, etc) • Understanding of mechanical engineering design, stress analysis and mechanical performance prediction and testing. • Solid understanding of “secondary” polymer processing methods such as injection molding, thermoforming, sheet extrusion, wire coating extrusion, compression molding and profile extrusion. Language: • Mandarin & English Other skills: • Leadership and teamwork skills. Must be able to work as part of a small, diverse team. • Presentation skills – must be able to present technical information to customers and internal staff at all levels • Accountability. Must be able to set and meet aggressive project targets. • Ability to work as a member of the Global Application Technology team (often requires after-hours telephone calls with team members in Europe or USA). • Statistics skills desirable (ability to conduct a designed experiment, identify significant factors, etc) • Technical writing ability (the role requires regular contributions of technical articles in relevant journals) Other requirements: • Computer literacy (Windows, Microsoft Office, etc.) • Internet literacy • Drivers license desirable but not necessary • Passport for international travel

Essential Responsibilities

1. Leadership in creating technical solutions and new concepts for new applications of engineering thermoplastics. 2. Develop and introduce new secondary operations technologies and methods for engineering thermoplastic components that meet application requirements. Technologies include various processes for fabrication (welding and bonding) and decorating (painting, plating, coating or NCVM) plastic components which are manufactured using injection molding, thermoforming, profile extrusion or sheet extrusion processes. 3. Contribute to Application Technology Program and New Product Introduction projects (led by the Product Technology team) by a. Relating customer and application needs to product (finished part) performance and secondary operations requirements, b. Assisting with the fabrication of prototype parts and semi-production parts for key projects 4. Translate new secondary operations (fabrication and decoration) technologies and processes from USA and Europe to Asia-Pacific regions. 5. Establish close working relationships with Secondary Operations engineers based in Europe and USA. 6. Establish relationships with secondary operations equipment and technology suppliers in Asia, allowing us to conduct joint development projects. 7. Provide training and consulting to the field marketing team on secondary operations technologies and processes.
