Job Tile: Hybrid and Electric Systems Principle Engineer


Location: Shanghai



Based at Ricardo Shanghai Technical Centre in the China, primarily you will support the Hybrid and Electric Systems (HES) Product Group in the proposal and project delivery activities. Your everyday tasks will include the provision of technical support in proposal preparation and development, and project delivery. You will be comfortable in meeting new customers and developing relationships, working closely with commercial and sector leaders, and operating within the Global Product Group team to win and deliver new business.



Main responsibilities:

Generating New Business

-Providing technical lead in customer sales meetings and responses to RFQs

-Proposal preparation either alone or in team situations (documentation, plans, costing, commercial package)

-Support development of Ricardo technology strategy and product offerings for engines

-Developing and maintaining client network and relationships with key client staff relevant to your position

-Responding to customer requests for information or discussion documents

-Following Ricardo internal processes

-Understanding of market trends in your sector e.g., legislation, fuel, R&D needs, customer behavior, customer product range

-Working with other divisions of Ricardo to understand our global capability and experience



Delivering Current Business

-Taking lead on some projects and portions of larger projects where appropriate

-Leading/Supporting delivery of China projects with delivery teams located in multiple regions

-Understanding status of all global HES projects active with China customers

-Maintaining appropriate communication with customers on current projects



Improvement Activity and Facility

-Deliver assigned improvement projects (generic proposal, legislation links, market data)

-Support Shanghai facility as and when required (e.g., definition of equipment needs, technical support for test work queries if required, understanding of future equipment to meet legislation or market demands).






Qualifications:

-Degree qualified engineer with a minimum of 10 years' industry experience with strong technical background in hybridisation of vehicles (could be in architecture, testing, software, etc.)

-Matlab/Simulink® autocoding experience is desirable

-Knowledge of ISO 26262 or similar safety specifications is highly desirable

-Experience with high voltage (> 60V) systems in automotive environment

-Expertise in any of electric motors, batteries, power electronics is highly desirable

-Knowledge of electric motors, batteries, power electronics, engines, and transmissions

-Ability to work in a challenging team environment

-A track record of product development within the automotive industry, ideally to volume production

-Proven interpersonal and communication skills

-An ability to independently work within multi-disciplined teams under pressure and tight timescales

-High degree of flexibility and willingness to travel internationally as well as within China

-Robust character with a strong drive and motivation to succeed

-Great patience in dealing with client and team situations coupled with an ability to accept and positively respond to frequent changes

-An appreciation of and an ability to positively resolve issues arising from different cultures
