Lead Equipment Engineer

Major Responsibilities:
- develops the design basis for capital investment projects including but not limited to equipment lists, equipment selection, inquiry drawings, initial mechanical design, specifications, material selection;
- identifies technical needs of clients, provides feedback on potential for improvement and develops an optimal solution while considering technical, economical and ecological constrains;
- converts needs of clients into functional and technical requirements and finally into engineering design input;
- supports the efforts to design a plant which can be safely operated in a sustainable manner by applying standard techniques like HAZOP;
- provides technical input for all activities related to permitting (FSR, EIA, OH, PDP reports as well as construction license);
- collects data for cost estimation for his or her discipline;
- proposes the work plan and schedule for equipment design services in projects;
- supervises design activities and ensures compliance with applicable codes and standards;
- reviews or checks engineering documents created by equipment engineers assigned to the same project team;
- generates and reviews inquiry documents for equipment including the appropriate specifications;
- clarifies and negotiates scope of supply with vendors within his / her area of responsibility;
- generates and reviews technical bid evaluations within his / her area of responsibility;
- provides technical guidance during design review sessions out of a equipment design perspective;
- provides field engineering support;
- provides consultancy during equipment manufacturing;
- provides technical support to QA / QC;
- leads teams of up to 5 equipment engineers as part of the project organization;
- prepares and holds meetings for equipment engineer teams in projects;
- ensures implementation of measures within the project to protect the intellectual property of the client;
- ensures implementation of good engineering practices in projects;
- prepares general technical specifications for equipments;
- contributes to development of good engineering practices according to his or her line function;
- provides technical guidance and know how to engineers;
- fulfills responsibilities of an equipment engineer;
- participates actively in the development of his / her discipline by reading relevant scientific publications, attending conferences or fairs, sharing unprotected know how and experiences with his peers within and without his / her own organization etc for the sake of of expanding his or her professional capabilities;
- performs other related duties as required.

Requirements:
- holds at least a Bachelor of Science degree with a mechanical design related major, and has a minimum of 8 years relevant professional experience. Experience in an international working environment is preferred;
- has gained during his professional career significant know how in the areas of conceptual, basic and detail design including interface management with contractors, cost estimation, field engineering support, commissioning and start-up of chemical, pharmaceutical, petrochemical or related plants;
- is proficient in relevant national codes and standards;
- is knowledgeable in relevant design software (AutoCAD, SW 6, PV Elite, Dimy etc)
- is familiar with the general engineering procedures and work flows;
- is proficient in using standard office software;
- can communicate in Mandarin and English at a level sufficient for an international working environment;
- has a positive attitude towards technical and organizational challenges, regards undefined equipment design tasks as an invitation to develop new and optimal solutions for the client rather than as a weak work basis;
- is able to establish priorities, to organize, to work independently, and to proceed according to agreed objectives without continuous supervision;
- has the ability to lead teams according to Bayer Leadership principles;
- is able to express ideas concisely and clearly, orally and in writing;
- is able to work in a multi-cultural environment;
- embraces the concept of long-life learning;
- exhibits considerable interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
- shows a superior degree of diligence and maintains confidentiality as access to sensitive client data and documents is granted to the job holder.
