Principle Duties and Responsibilities
1. Business development
- Leads market research and competitor intelligence to ensure we are stay on top of product and market trends
- Partners with LA counterparts to receive objectives and ensure objectives are reviewed and distributed to the best potential vendors/factories
- Source new vendors and factories to meet future business needs
2. Vendor relations
- Leads input into vendor matrix set-up and maintenance and follows up on appropriate action items based on new and changing business conditions
- Establishes and maintains key vendor matrix relationships
- Ensures vendors/factories are trained and coached on standard procedures, business rules and all compliance requirements
- Ensures that fashion t4wends are translated into improved products at advantageous prices
- Oversees programs with vendors to ensure all requirements are communicated and comprehended
- Ensures all samples and costing information is provided in a timely and effective manner
- Maintains strong relationship with vendors/factories to ensure production process and output – such as capacity, sample submissions, revision negotiations are meeting the expectation
3. Program management
- Works with LA counterparts and vendors/factories to determine the best product execution and specifications to satisfy all business requirements.
- Ensures programs are managed flawlessly for business under direct responsibility
- Ensures issues and problems identified by the team and vendors/factories are resolved proactively
4. Communication and Negotiation
- Keeps all relevant parties aware/update on any market trends, regulation, trade development, vendor capabilities/capacity, price movement.
- Communicates effectively across LA and Shanghai cross functional teams, vendors/factories and the supply chains.
- Facilitates price negotiation with vendors/factories and the supply chains.
Job Requirements
1. Minimum requirements
- 8-10 years (Manager), 5 years (SMR), 3 years (MR) proven sourcing, merchandising experiences
- Excellent communication skills in English and local language
- Knowledge and experience of US retail industry and management style
- Strong problem solving, negotiations, planning and organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to travel within China and occasionally to overseas
- Result-oriented, self-motivated, dedicated, enthusiastic and energetic
Additional requirements for the Manager
- Build effective strategic relationships with senior leaders and business partners
- Responsible for developing the leadership and coaching skills of direct reports
- Leverage analysis and experience to identify and prioritize new sourcing opportunities and creates resource plans to achieve goals and targets
- Hold business partners accountable to performance agreements and determines when course corrections are necessary and leads the execution
- Prioritize and lead the continuous improvement process for programs within purview
- Has strong sourcing knowledge and regularly leverage external experts, associations, industry peers to identify and benchmark best practices
- Oversee and conduct as needed, high visibility and complex competitive negotiation processes
2. Desired requirements
- Work experience with trading or buying office organization
- Experience with working across national borders and with team members from different countries and backgrounds
