General:
Analyze and manage the performance of assigned suppliers. Communicates directly with purchasing, engineering, and manufacturing regarding supplier capabilities / limitations, improvement projects, and qualification efforts. Evaluates suppliers’ manufacturing processes, recommends changes, and implements changes. Pariticipates in supplier audits and may lead audits. May be required to institute and promote cost reduction projects. Monitors the cost, schedule, and performance factors of major suppliers. Develops sources of supply for assigned commodities at the direction of their Manager.

Specifics:
1. Must have core competency in the multiple aspects of the commodity (e.g. Sheet Metal, Frame Weldments, Fixturing, Tooling, Electro-Mechanical Assembly, Powdercoating), and progressive Quality Management Practices
2. Uses best known practices and Quality Tools to monitor and improve supplier performance – examples of this are: 8D, 5S, SPC, Lean Manufacturing, DOE, Root Cause Analysis, Six Sigma, FMEA, TQM, VAVE, etc
3. Manages the day to day performance of assigned suppliers and initiates corrective action plans when necessary.
4. Guides suppliers using Best Known Methods (BKM) for fabrication resulting in reduced fabrication time, increased through-put, increased repeatability, reduced defect rate, and conformance to specification.
5. Escalates to Supplier Manager if supplier performance is trending in a direction that might cause change in supplier status that will affect shipments.
6. Manages new development efforts by insuring the supplier is creating and managing to formal project plans
7. Manages frequent supplier meetings with cross functional team (weekly, etc.)
8. Interface with other companyDepartments to support strategic plans in support of corporate and department objectives.
9. Assume a participatory role in the Supplier Selection and Assessment process for new or existing products.
10. Identify and pursue cost reduction opportunities to support cost reduction and productivity objectives.
11. Maintain departmental metrics to monitor the effectiveness of assigned responsibilities.
12. Manages specific assignments within the assigned commodity area with responsibility for improving quality, cost, availability, Time to Volume, flexibility, and service. Identifies opportunities for commodity complexity reduction and escalates/makes recommendations for improvement of operational efficiency.

Qualifications
Formal Education and Training
? Significant experience (4+ years) in a mechanical or electrical trade – sheet metal fabrication, welding, solid state electrical assembly, etc. or equivilent combination of education and experience
? Associates / Bachelors Degree in an Engineering discipline a benefit
? Six Sigma Certification a benefit
? C.P.M. and / or CPIM certifications a benefit

Experience
? 5+ years experience, including program/project management, preferably in support of a consumer goods manufacturing environment, with significant exposure to Purchasing contracts and supplier negotiations.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
? Proficient in MS/ Office applications (XL, WORD, POWER POINT ETC.)
? Strong technical aptitude in electro-mechanical assembly
? Fluency in English (written & verbal)
? Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
