Primary Function
Lead the implement of Kohler’s Environmental Management System (KEMS) and Safety Management System (KSMS) initiatives throughout China. Team with Kohler China operations to identify and review EHS required programs and conduct compliance audits. Maintain a detailed understanding of China regulations and how they apply to Kohler operations. Support the Kohler China operations with the development of cost effective strategies to comply with all EHS regulation and required programs. Assist all Kohler China operations with achievement of the Kohler’s strategic sustainability goals and metrics.
Travel Requirements
This position has EHS support responsibilities at all Kohler China facilities with a travel requirement of 65%, with 5 % being outside of China.
Specific Responsibilities
1. Develop and maintain a detailed familiarity with all Kohler China operations.
2. Conduct regular EHS Management System reviews and prepare operations for Management system audits. Provide feedback to the facilities and recommend action plans to close any gaps.
3. Review all EHS incident investigation to assure corrective measures are completed on time and assist them with identification and addressing the root cause of the incident.
4. Provide technical support related to permits, authorizations, capital project, and other EHS concerns.
5. Assist with educational training and communi¬ca¬tion activities to build manage¬ment and employee under¬standing and commitment to EHS compliance and sustainability goals.
6. Work with the locations to conduct periodic audits of waste and beneficial reuse contractors, and the sites they use to process Kohler Co. material.
7. Review EHS data and trends working with the EHS specialists and plant management to develop clear action plans that focus on defined goals that achieve measurable results.
8. Identify areas where EHS performance is not matching expected results. Work to reverse trends with the plant management to achieve results.
9. Provide training materials to facility EHS specialists and conduct training (train the trainer) as required for safety, health and environmental issues.
10. Provide technical support for accident and injury reduction programs, with emphasis on preventing injuries before they occur.
11. Design and install accident investigation programs, and train plant personnel to manage all injuries claims (both medical and time loss).
12. Develop and maintain a positive image for Kohler Co. with the public and with government regulatory agencies.
Relationships and Contacts
Supervisory Relationships
This position reports to the EHS Program Manager -- ASPAC and has a relationship with the management teams within all the Kohler China operations.
Organizational Relationships
Frequent contact maintained Kohler Operating System (KOS) Team in china, Plant Safety Specialists, Plant Managers,, Environmental, Health & Safety and Human Resources. Occasional contact is maintained with Purchasing Department and Corporate Officers.
External Business Relationships
This position will have frequent contact with state, local, and provincial regulatory agencies, engineering firms, environmental and safety consultants, vendors, and contractors.
