The Position:
National Sales & Marketing Director China with a proven track record of launching skincare, haircare and or fragrance brands in China. The role will be based in Shanghai, reporting to the UK based Managing Director & CEO Designer Parfums.
Overview:
The position will be expected to develop the Go-to-Market strategy, and oversee the effective launch of a selection of the Company’s current fragrance brands in limited distribution in China, while simultaneously working together with our UK Head Offices to develop a pipeline of new product skincare and haircare initiatives that address current and emerging consumer needs in China in order to build the overall Designer Parfums & AKITA Brands brand portfolio in the territory.
You will be expected to develop and demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the business’s brands and the local consumer so as to formulate the appropriate integrated consumer marketing and communication programs which will enhance brand image and deliver the awareness required in order to succeed in the territory.
You will monitor, analyse & report change in consumer attitudes and consumption behaviours towards each brand within the portfolio.
Purpose and Scope:
·Develop the Go-to-Market strategy for the Designer Parfums and Akita brand portfolios.
·Launch and manage both Designer Parfums and AKITA Brands portfolio of brands (which includes fragrance, haircare and skincare) in the relevant retail and online channels in China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan & Hong Kong.
·Lead the strategic planning and retailer / distributor partnership process.
·Manage the distributor and representative networks to meet or exceed Group targets.
·Identify market opportunities within assigned regional sales territory.
·Develop and implement profitable sales growth plans and achieve sales budget and market share targets.
·Co-ordinate sales and cross-functional efforts to ensure proper focus on brand equity.
·Feedback to and communicate with Senior Management, Marketing and Legal and Finance teams based in the UK.
·Ensure all sales activities are consistently with company focus on brand equity, quality, market share and cost.
·Participate in company strategic planning, annual planning and monthly forecasting.
·Advise the company on the best range, product line up and launch strategies for each of the markets, retail channels and groups within those markets.
·Identify competitor strengths, weaknesses, and overall market position.
·Provide input on product research and development.
·Through understanding and awareness update and advise the Company on the implications of - and developments in - local regulatory and compliance issues such as animal testing etc.
·Recruit and develop a high quality and effective sales team of in-store sales supervisors and beauty advisors in line with retail launch & store roll-out.
·Support exhibitions, marketing campaigns, conferences in the region.
·Lead the team to work on brand development based on deep understanding of category, consumers, competitors and local culture.
·Support the UK Head Office team by thinking strategically and focusing on developing high quality plans which truly leverage on consumer insights and fit to our strategic intention.
·Work closely with cross functional team including Directors, General Management, Global Sales, Accounts, Legal, Marketing & NPD.
The Successful Applicant:
·Acts ethically and with high-integrity
·12 – 15 years managerial level experience in the fragrance and beauty / luxury goods industry or related industry with similar business model desirable
·Proven track record launching a brand in China
·Experience in managing a national sales role with proven capability in POS retail & retailer relationship management.
·Willing to regularly travel and can do this to Europe when necessary
·Self-motivated, driven to succeed
·Analytical, creative, out-of-the-box thinker
·Experience in managing teams, multiple customers, sales opportunities and the ability to balance diverse projects.
·Proven leadership abilities especially in developing professional sales staff
·Experience with multinational companies preferred
·Proficient in both English and Chinese languages
