Position Summary: The role of an Welding Engineer is to provide on line support of welding operations, program/reprogram welding equipment, and troubleshoot to identify causes of poor weld condition.
Supervises: N/A
Preferred Education and Experience:
1. Bachelor degree in Mechanical or Electrical engineering with training in programing
2. Basic experience in a manufacturing assembly environment
3. Results oriented with strong written and oral communications skills
4. Verbal and oral English skills required
Skills and Experience:
1. GMAW or MIG Welding - can setup, maintain, troubleshoot and repair
(a) Lincoln experience a plus - this is the power supply they will be using knows components, understands how equipment is connected and functions:
- weld output cables, motor cable, torch, conductor tube, diffuser, contact tip, nozzle, wire conduit/liner
- perform preventative maintenance
- knows proper welding techniques: stickout, work angle, travel angle and travel speed
- can properly adjust voltage and wirefeed speed for a given material
- recognize and correct common welding flaws: porosity, burn through, crater, cold weld, weld skip whiskers, off location, undercutting
- understand sequence parameters - pre-flow, post-flow, run-in, crater burnback
b. Resistance or Spot Welding
- Medar experience a plus - this is the controller they will be using relate how time, current and pressure effect weld quality
- differentiate between good and bad welds
- identify spot welding parameters and their purpose; squeeze time, weld time, hold time
- know methods to test weld integrity
- understand the importance of electrode alignment and the effect of mushrooming
c. Plasma Cutting
d. FANUC Robots - can manipulate, troubleshoot and program robot used for arc welding and plasma cutting
- familiar with and can navigate teach pendant
- reset faults, recover from singularity
- understand robot coordinates (XYZ and Joint)
- know components used in a program statement: motion type, position type, speed, termination type, motion option
- modify weld schedule data for a given arctool instruction
- understand non-motion instructions: wait, jump label, if statements, program call and registers
- able to master the robot
e. Fixturing
- perform part checks and follow quality control plans
- adjust weld fixture to maintain customer part specifications
f. Safety
- Follow safety procedures
g. Other tasks assigned by head of deparment
