JOB SUMMARY
1. Responsible for Design and Development of local, regional or global Automation and Manufacturing Assembly Processes to support new product development.
2. Supports Product Development in the optimization designs for manufacturability; realizes sample tooling, product samples and prototypes. Determines the most suitable manufacturing concepts related to planned manufacturing quantities, quality requirements and manufacturing location.
3. Design manual, semi-automatic, and automatic assembly equipment to TE operational standards and machine acceptance criteria. Ensures compliance to TE safety and control reliability requirements for all automation equipment.
4. Work with and manage vendors to ensure assembly equipment is capable of producing exceptional quality products in an efficient manner and at the lowest possible cost possible by the effective use of material, equipment and manpower
5. Ensure projects are completed in a timely manner and properly transferred to manufacturing upon First Article approval complete with documentation
6. Commission\validate and release new processes to Operations based upon machine acceptance criteria and TE operational and safety standards.
7. Introduce new automation/assembly technology and techniques to enhance overall operational efficiency.
8. Participate in the design and development of cell manufacturing utilizing various processes.
9. Work within a cross-functional team consisting of various manufacturing process experts.
10. Integrate feedback and lessons learned into new automation/assembly processes.
11. Collaborate with global experts to update and continuously improve operational standards.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
1. Degree or Diploma in Mechanical / Production Engineering, Automation or equivalent with rich experience in integrated automation and assembly processes.
2. 5+ years of experience in assembly or automated assembly machine design in connector field.
3. Familiar with Vision Inspection, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Pneumatics, sensors, motors and other motion control devices.
4. Proficient in drafting techniques, understand tolerance calculations and has working knowledge of mechanical elements and fits.
5. Familiar and proficient in the use of Pro-Engineer, SolidWorks or AUTOCAD.
6. Good knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
7. Understanding of Six Sigma and Lean Principals [green belt is preferred].
8. Basic knowledge of injection molding, metal stamping, and metal plating.
9. Good project management skill – Ability to work on several projects at once.
10. Ability to clearly communicate technical specifications and process requirements.
11. Basic understanding packaging and packaging automation.
12. Willingness to travel (25% travel).
13. Ability to effectively communicate in English – Written and Spoken

JOB DUTIES
1. Provide ballpark cost estimates for assembly equipment and/or integrated automation as well as manufacturing costs for new programs / products in a timely manner.
2. Manage projects to ensure timely debugging of new machines to meet first article qualification target so as to facilitate new program start up.
3. Prepare machine specifications for quotation and ensure machines are developed according to TE Engineering Standards and tool-up comply with environmental management procedures. Ensures compliance to TE safety and control reliability requirements for all automation equipment.
4. Provide technical advice to enhance future product design through automation engineering evaluation. Conduct evaluations for design for manufacturability.
5. Design and develop integrated automation and assembly processes for manufacturing. Establish and clearly communicate machine acceptance criteria.
6. Approval of First Article inspections and process capability. Ensure approval through close follow-up on machine debugging, conditioning and modification for formal acceptance.
7. Work within a cross functional team and participate in LEAN Product Development.
8. Travel to suppliers/plants in order to support development/fine-tuning and or project release.
9. Introduce new automation/ assembly technology or techniques to improve operational efficiency and raise productivity without compromising on quality.
10. Champion flexible manufacturing and integrate flexible platforms into designs.
11. Chair and conduct Assembly Design review with the Engineering, Operation and Quality Engineering.
12. Participate in FMEA to ensure the Assembly Manufacturing process is robust and potential failure modes are accounted for.
13. Ensure documentation is in line with Machine Acceptance requirement for release to operation.
14. Utilize statistical analysis for problem solving (Six Sigma).
15. Travel to suppliers/plants in order to support development/fine-tuning and or project release
