Position Title: Steel/Mechanical Components Category Manager, Asia/Pacific
Department: Industrial Packaging Group
Reports to: Director, Asia Pacific Procurement
Location: Qingdao, China
This opportunity is a result of the creation of a standalone corporate structure for the Industrial Packaging group.
Job Summary:
The Steel/Mechanical Components Category Manager is responsible for managing the sourcing and supply base strategy for these critical direct material categories. The Category Manager will partner with Engineering and Operations to develop these strategies aligned with the priorities and business strategies of the relevant units in the APAC region (India, Korea, China, Japan, Australia). Additionally, this Category Manager will work with their regional peers in Europe and the Americas to develop and execute global category strategies for steel and mechanical components. For suppliers in the APAC region, the Category Manager will drive analytics to identify ways to minimize “total costs of ownership”while maximizing service; manage the relationships and performance of these suppliers; and develop partnerships with those core firms that truly support IPG's needs.
Qualifications/Skills:
1.University degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, or related discipline.
2.10+ years of experience in Procurement and Sourcing, preferably at companies with strong Strategic Sourcing disciplines.
3.Deep knowledge of steel markets and the value chains for mechanical components (stamping, forging, casting, machining, etc.)
4.Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
5.Ability to prioritize conflicting demands and communicate effectively to multiple stakeholders.
6.Expertise in contract negotiations, cost modeling, and value chain analysis.
7.Experience in multi-national, global operations preferred
8.Ability to travel internationally (up to 40%)
9.Strong verbal and written communication skills (English fluency required; Mandarin, Japanese, and Korean desired)
Key Responsibilities
1.Interact with Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Service, and other functional areas in each division/unit to develop and implement category strategies which deliver target performance levels at optimum overall costs.
2.Work across divisions/units to identify opportunities for synergy and manage program implementation
3.Investigate value chain concepts through benchmarking, seminars, and/or other research avenues.
4.Lead the development of RFQ's for various sub-segments, drive analytics and TCO comparisons, and coordinate implementation of results.
5.Engage Engineering with new product development activities to deliver target product costs; promote supplier engagement in driving innovation and design alternatives.
6.Develop and negotiate vendor contracts to drive performance, secure productivity commitments, and protect IPG against risks
7.Assist / guide the various IPG business units with systemic issues from the steel mills/mechanical component suppliers via QBRs and supplier executive engagement.
8.Monitor supplier performance (quality, delivery, cost) and drive improvement activities.
9.Conduct quarterly business reviews with the core suppliers to ensure they are meeting IPG's outlined service requirements
