GENERAL SUMMARY
The function of this position is to provide expert test services including data collection, test coordination, and review of testing systems. Acts as a mentor for new laboratory personnel. Proficiency will be accomplished through on-the-job training, formal training, and planned job rotation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Understanding of all department safety procedures, and emergency action plans.
2. Understanding of department quality systems, including Quality Policy Statement, Quality Manual and all relevant work instructions.
3. Operating in a manner that reinforces, supports, and is consistent with the Cooper Philosophy and Beliefs.
4. Ability to execute all key test methods and procedures.
5. Requires in-depth knowledge of general laboratory and ISO policies and test procedures in all assigned testing areas.
6. Provides accurate interpretation of customer test requests, initiates and executes testing, evaluates and documents results.
7. Participates on intra- and inter-departmental teams to improve existing processes and/or develop new process and test methods.
8. Reviews work instructions, information systems, or other department procedures for improvements.
9. Advises of problems and deviations from accepted procedures and reports to the supervisor.
10. Participates in training opportunities that will help to develop their work and management skills and to maintain awareness of company and industry trends.
11. Aides in the development and training of new or inexperienced personnel.
12. Demonstrates leadership among technicians.
13. May assume duties of the supervisor on a limited basis.
14. Interacts with internal customers, outside organizations, and other Cooper facilities
15. Must be able to comply with flexible work hours including daily and weekend overtime as required.
16. . Ability to proficiently operate the following Materials Laboratory testing equipment:
1) Lab Mixer
2) Lab Mill
3) Lab Curing Press
4) Specimen Preparation Equipment
17. Ability to proficiently execute standard Materials Laboratory test methods and procedures, including Rheology, Instron, DMA, Accelerated Aging of Specimens, Testing raw material inventory control & management, etc.
18. Ability to proficiently operate a variety of digital and analog measurement equipments, including Digital Scales, Electronic balance, Thickness gauges, Steel rules, Calipers, Durometer, etc.
19. Ability to proficiently conduct routine calibration, maintenance and repairs of Materials Laboratory testing equipment.
20. Provide accurate interpretation of customer test requests, initiate and execute testing, evaluate and report test results.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
1. Minimum of 3 years of work experience (Formal education may be used as a substitute for some of this experience)
2. Junior College, Bachelors Degree preferred
3. Meets all requirements of Technician Level 2 positions.
4. Performs Technician Level 2 position to a Meets Goal /Meets Expectations level in PMAC

REQUIRED DECISION-MAKING AND ORGANIZATION IMPACT
1. Work is performed in accordance with ISO department procedures, and company policy.
2. Activities and conduct of this position are minimally supervised.

4. Capable of making decisions related to planning and carrying out work. Decisions are based on departmental policies and the technical knowledge of the work itself.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
1. Reports to Shift Team Leader or Materials Lab Manager
2. Participates in development and training of new or inexperienced personnel.
3. May assume the duties of the supervisor during absences.

WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Depending upon assigned work areas, a significant amount of time may be spent in non-climate controlled environments. Routine lifting of 50 lb test samples may also be required.
2. Test equipment with moving parts, heat generation, and high voltage are routinely utilized. All safety procedures must be followed to avoid physical injury.
