Job Purpose

The Merchandising Manager will provide leadership to the Merchandising Team and take full accountability for the execution of sample development and cost quotations based on detailed design direction. Close communication with suppliers at a high level of detail is needed to see a project through. Besides communication with China-based suppliers, the Merchandising Manager must have excellent reading and writing English skills to communicate daily with our US and southeast Asia teams. 

Responsibilities

·        Review, analyze and translate (as needed) detailed product specifications, design directions, quotations, and sample requests from US Design Teams.

·        Search new techniques and methodologies to improve product quality. If appropriate, apply/deploy them in the manufacturing process

·        Provide leadership and coaching to Merchandising Team, building a skilled team of experts.

·        Identify cost savings measures in production, materials, packing, logistics, etc.

·        Collaborate with Sales, Sourcing, and Factory Compliance teams to identify appropriate factories to produce products.

·        Become familiar with product composition, manufacturing processes and costs.

·        Perform price analysis and negotiate with suppliers for the lowest cost.

·        Participate in daily cross-functional team meetings to advance projects.

·        Travel as needed to visit factories and opportunity for buyer trip to Canton Fair.

Competencies

·        Ability to recognize and avoid conflicts of interest, keeping the best interest of the company paramount and your reputation for honest and fair dealing intact.

·        Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent

·        Over 10 years of experience in merchandising and product development and at least 5 years in managerial position, preferably supporting major retailers: Target, Walmart, Ikea, TJX

·        Knowledge in handicrafts preferred: handwoven baskets, cottage industry, metalworks, and wooden furniture

·        Good analytical skills with the ability to thoroughly analyze, interpret data/information to make sound decisions

·        Passionate and positive attitude. Strives for high performance

·        Demonstrated success in leading merchandising projects

·        Excellent English skills, written and speaking
