Responsibilities:

General:

• Ensure all technical aspects of the product development are carried out as per the agreed timings, with any issues or risks clearly highlighted to line manager in a timely manner.
• Liaise with the cross functional internal and external team to ensure technical milestones are met
• Coordination of factory line trials, subsequent R&D qualification testing and validation prior to launch
• Ensure all relevant product specifications and internal documentation is in place and fully approved prior to full production start-up
• May involvement line management of one or more Assistants or Associates– if applicable ensure they are effectively managed and encouraged in their personal development
• To be consumer minded and have an understanding of behaviour across the different regions and translate this learning into product design and development
• Balance formulation and product performance robustness and challenging cost targets
• Development of robust evaluation methodologies leading to sustainable and consumer-relevant claims
• Support idea/concept generation where appropriate.
• Ensure all IP considerations are fully taken into account during the product development process.
• Responsible for the compilation, approval and circulation of technical reports throughout the product development process.
• All assigned development activity must conform to legislative, health & safety and environmental requirements.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Good degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
• Relevant experience (1 to 3 years) within product development role within FMCG environment.
• Specific knowledge and experience of underpinning Durex technologies an advantage, as is medical device development experience
• Understanding of strategy and planning issues, consumer understanding and priority setting
• Results oriented, with good time management and good organisational skills.
• A self-starter, entrepreneurial and self-motivated, with solid planning.
• Openness to change and ability to think out of the box
• Good motivational, interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyse data and solve complex technical problems.
• Proven ability to work under pressure without compromising on deliverables.
• Strong attention to detail
• A team player
• Pilot plant / Industrialisation experience is an advantage
  

Job Scope

Involves responsibility for carrying out product development activities on projects in one or more platforms of the Durex R&D portfolio. Involves project leadership for E2E project from concept to launch stage or workstream leadership on for a larger technical project depending on project requirements. To actively contribute towards the development of consumer preferred products from conception stage to development and through to the start of full production and subsequent launch into market. The role requires strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently within a multi-disciplinary project team. Role requires to balance opportunity, cost, constraints and time to deliver high quality output. Strong technical and problem-solving skills are an essential requirement of the role as is an ability to take ownership of key aspects of the project. It may also involve line management and development of one or more R&D Assistants or R&D Associates. It requires theoretical and practical functional expertise within one or more of the relevant key Durex technologies, for example formulation &/or process development and good understanding of the relevant legislation.

Key Challenge

• Effective tracking and management of all product development work and associated testing, to ensure no slippage versus agreed timings, despite multiple projects and priorities
• Technical problem solving and troubleshooting when required to ensure issues are addressed without delaying or hindering progression of project
• Ability to stand up to challenge from Marketing & Supply
• Optimisation of product to ensure all technical success criteria are met – balancing performance and cost
• Timely completion of technical documentation, specifications and support data to a high standard
