1. Purpose of Position:
· Manages the business and its marketing activities of assigned products
2. Main Responsibilities:
Position Responsibilities
· Strategic Thinking
Ø Recommends brand / sub-category strategies based on the evaluation of available information
Ø Proactively monitor and respond to consumer/shopper trends, competitive threats, brand issues and opportunities
Ø Formulates specific brand / sub-category plans that consistent with overall category / company goals.
Ø Sells concept and ideas to management
· Marketing Planning
Ø Translates consumer insights into brand / sub-category strategies and marketing plans
Ø Builds and defends market share with plans aligned to brand / sub-category strategy
Ø Develops comprehensive understanding of brand equity, target market and positioning relative to competitors
Ø Identifies new ways to grow the category by educating consumers and by increasing penetration and usage
· Innovation
Ø Draws on consumer insights and related competitive information for new product development
Ø Finds creative ways to generate new products ideas
Ø Implements new product development projects according to plan
Ø Initiates brainstorming / concept development programs
Ø Suggests new ideas to improve product performance
Ø Identifies new ways of solving day-to-day problems
· Business and Financial Analysis
Ø Understands the profitability driver and provides thorough analysis for making fact-based decisions
Ø Examines every opportunity for margin improvement / creative ideas to grow profitability
Ø Periodically check brand / sub-category P&L against financial goals (NSV, VC and OI)
Ø Demonstrates cost consciousness, clear understanding of marketing budget and contractual agreement with agencies, control of marketing expenditure with up to date spending, record and supporting documentation
Ø Prepares accurate and timely report i.e. retail audit, marketing data for management, yearly marketing plan, promotion/campaigns evaluation etc.
· Consumer and Shopper Insights
Ø Masters consumer/shopper insights to drive brand / sub-category growth
Ø Recognizes the benefits consumers seek and identifies unmet consumer needs
Ø Capitalizes on relevant data about consumer/shopper trends, usage and segments
Ø Looks for emerging consumer trends / needs for new product opportunities
Ø Executes research projects that support brand/sub-category strategies
Ø Reviews research designs and methodologies vis-a-vis business and research objectives
Ø Exploits consumer and shopper understanding to create product differentiation
· Promotion Effectiveness
Ø Develops innovative, consumption-driving promotions that are profitable
Ø Measures return on investment through post promotion evaluation
Ø Finds opportunities to improve effectiveness of current promotion and merchandising:.
Ø Leveraging the use of the various tools such as the Internet, NED channel etc
Ø Has a good grasp of the various promotion mechanics and their relative success
Ø Prepares promotional brief / plan
Ø Identifies opportunities based on emerging promotional trends
· Advertising: Creative and Media
Ø Prepares clear, insightful and thorough creative and media briefs to guide the agency
Ø Works with Legal & R&D to achieve the most competitive visual and copy communication possible (both pack and creative like POP, TVC, Print )
Ø Stays abreast of developments and implications in technology and the dynamic media / communication environment
· Trade / Sales Understanding
Ø Works with trade marketing / sales for optimal understanding and resolution of merchandising, promotion and distribution issues
Ø Knows how shoppers respond to product features such as price, size and packaging
Ø Exploits opportunities and works with sales to increase distribution
Ø Draws business insights from trade visit and store checks
Ø Uses sales and trade knowledge in developing and implementing marketing programs.
· Cross-Functional Collaboration
Ø Works collaboratively across functions and categories.
Ø Knows how business decisions impact the supply chain
Ø Uses consumer and customer data to optimize SKUs
Ø Develops strong working relationships with professionals in other departments.
Ø Organizes and facilitate discussions in cross-functional team meetings
Ø Tracks and keep team members informed of project status / updates
Ø Seeks inputs and commitments from cross-functional teams for project implementation
· Executional Excellence
Ø Masters the critical activities and resources required to deliver on time and on budget.
Ø Develops project timeline with detailed components, making it clear who is responsible for each action.
Ø Understands the costs and timing required to meet timeline
Ø Connects and communicates with the key people across functions for fast, effective decision making and implementation
Ø Own and track the project timeline to move projects forward
Ø Monitors progress during and post new product launch, identify success and setbacks and capture learnings for future improvements.
Ø Initiates appropriate application of, and follow through of, all marketing activities and project assignments (i.e. ensures preparation of accurate paperwork, collects authorization, distributes documents)
Ø Conducts regular market visits to gather, report and disseminate information in relate to competitor activities, market scenario, pricing, merchandising, consumers and shoppers.
Ø Maintains correct and complete filing of all relevant documents on a timely manner
Ø Executes different day-to-day activities as job demands
3. Position qualifications:
Educational requirement
Ø Bachelor or above
Working Experience and Technical Skill required
Ø Minimum 1 years working experience in the multi-national FMCG industry with experience in new product development and media creative.
Personal characters
Ø Innovative, analytical, logical thinking and consumer oriented mindset (business sense is vital)
Ø Capable to handle massive tasks
Ø Careful, diligent, eager to learn
Ø In-depth understanding of consumer insights, understand the various research tools and methodology
Ø Good understanding of trade/channel environment
Ø Effective communication and presentation skill with good command of English
Ø Strong team player and demonstrate effective interpersonal skills
Other Requirements
Ø Good English communication skill – both oral and written.
Ø Computer skills in Excel, Power Point and Word.
