• Research sustainable materials including all components, outsoles, insoles, backers etc....not just upper materials which meet social, ecological and economic objectives

• Promote  the company progress regard the material sustainability process

• Evaluate new/innovative materials based on their physical-chemical framework

• Build full hierarchy of materials based on eco-efficiency criteria

• Identify least sustainable materials and transfer them to more sustainable level

• Promote the efficient use or replacement of materials

• Mitigate the environmental impacts and measure benefits

• Offer innovative eco material for the business

• Coordinate the development of new materials according to relevant technical requirements

• Assure the material technical attributes and requirements are clearly documented in Caleres system

                     

Relationship

• Lead and coordinate all Caleres innovation, research, initiatives and projects in regards to sustainable material development

• Develops a close partnership with the US sustainability leadership and relevant brand partners,

• CAL PAA partners and factories/suppliers

• Builds good working relationships and influence across all levels and functions at Caleres

        

  

Preferred Qualifications & Education

  

• Bachelor degree or equivalent professional experience

• Minimum 10 years experience in material development

• Good computer skills: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

• Strong communication skills (spoke and written)

• Ability to train and mentor

• Local language is preferred, good English skills is a must

• Curious and passionate about product, sustainable product innovation and the brand(s)

• Have a very critical sense and keen eye for aesthetics and material tolerances

• Be able to think conceptually and promote sustainable ideas and their potential impact to the business to our brands

• Be able to influence diverse teams and individuals of all levels and possess the necessary technical abilities and be willing to continuously learn

• must possess excellent management and communication skills on English

• Embrace a collaborative working environment and ready to promote collaboration

• Must possess good coaching skills and has experience on material development

• Have a pro-active attitude and talent for identifying and solving problems,hands-on approach and a sense of urgency

• Always retain a respectful, professional, balanced and calm demeanor, even under heavy stress,be fully reliable and disciplined in every aspect of this role

• Good attitude to achieve the target, transmitting optimism for the team
