Report to: Country Managing Director (Greater China)
Position Summary:
Be responsible for the overall development and management of the firm's external affairs within China, covering all business divisions/units across all geographic areas. The key objective is to enhance firm's positioning with regards to relevant external bodies (government, industry associations, trade bodies, regulatory bodies and any other influencing stakeholders) so as to give firm the best long term business advantage.
Scope/Supervision and Interaction:
Reporting to Country Managing Director, the individual will be required to work with firm management team to develop, manage and execute a plan for successfully achieving external relational results within China which are favorable to the long term and short term interest of firm.
Job Responsibilities:
- Be responsible for the development and management of firm's external affairs within China, including government, government related bodies, Industry association, academy, regulation bodies and etc.
- Use external relations as a tool to strategically fuel growth within the business units, support firm's overall marketing objectives, support firm local China operations, and improve firm's significant position across China.
- Develop external relations strategy to position and gain business advantage for firm. Advise CMD and other company business leaders on the impact of changes in regulatory matters and firm's specific actions and reactions.
- Develop and coordinate an annual business plan designed to assist firm in achieving its strategic goals within China. Collaborate and coordinate with management team, BUs and functional leaders to implement external relations plan with necessary adjustment and variations throughout the year.
- Promote and assist the development of appropriate communications and relationships with the right external bodies (Government, local government agencies, trade and industry associations, etc.) in support of firm business strategy.
Qualifications:
- The successful candidate will be a recognized key player within China with at least 15 years of significant experience working in a multinational group combined with an experience in government relations/public affairs/trade associations.
- An undergraduate degree is required. An advanced degree such as MBA or MPP would be desirable.
- Must be fluent in both Mandarin and English both verbal and written
- Have track record and solid experience in developing relationships with external bodies. Proven ability to establish relationships and gain positions of influence with external bodies.
- Have deep understanding of the substantive policy issues of the industries of which they are associated and the business issues affecting firm.
- Sound communication, presentation and influencing skills in order to understand the various business interests and present company positions to government, government related bodies, Industry association, academy, regulation bodies.
- Proactive, collaborative, like to develop network, be able to develop new and creative ideas, willing to offer opinions and judgments.
- Strong people skills and a reputation for being a team player. Ability to work comfortably and effectively with mid to top-level government officials of either side of the political spectrum and with association leaders.
- Strong Chinese cultural background, with ability to operate with ease in a broad public/industry environment.
- Proven experience operating in a multinational company, being self-driven, action oriented and resulted driven.
- A clear reputation for ethical conduct.
