Reports To: Engineering Manager
Purpose:
This position exists to provide in depth technical insight and metallurgical and materials expertise to the Wuxi plant heat treat and the other metallurgical area within the plant. Ensures advanced metallurgy practices are data driven, sustainable, done according to Corp. standards, and developed according to Plant and Corp. manufacturing strategies. Chief Metallurgist-Wuxi ensures systems exist for process improvements, data collection, capacity/distortion modeling, new process/tooling development, as well as driving HT controls. Develop standards, control documents, and WI as well as providing technical support to Sr/Lead HT Engineers. Support new equipment installation, commissioning, debugging, and monitoring. This position has dotted line accountability for plant lab function.
Essential Responsibilities:
Approve HT process designs or modifications conform with manufacturing advancement process models & SOP's
Drive optimisation across such areas as: equipment installations, product/tooling DFM, equipment OEE, and process/transformation modeling.
Sign off on installations, process models, zone controls, and maintenance systems to ensure manufacturing processes meet documented specifications. Ensures the documented specifications are in accordance with Lean principles.
Supervise Senior and Lead Engineer to answer questions, develop their understanding, provide direction and team building, and ensure process optimisation.
Approve/document modifications to reduce scrap, set up times, run times, machine or production system malfunctions.
Oversee plant lab functions
Lead all heat treat and metallurgy approval process through presentation to Metallurgical council.
Play a lead role during customer heat treat and metallurgy audit
