Purpose
Explore and analyze large data sets originating from sales transaction and other sources, gain insights and bring actionable results to the surface. For that a profound business understanding is required in order to understand data driven opportunities, identify relevant data points, connect them and build statistical models for a variety of use cases in domains like promotion effectiveness, assortment planning, Campaign Management, Multi-Channel Inventory Optimization, Retail Store Operations, Trade Spent Optimization, etc.
Key Accountabilities
Promote and demystify data science to business users
Support analytics use case prioritization and roadmap creation
Proactively identify new analytical use cases / data driven business opportunities
Help to shape Big Data Strategy for adidas China
Deliver guidance for skillset development in the fields of statistics and machine learning
Data Science Process Execution
Interact with business stakeholders to achieve a detailed understanding of their challenges and data requirements
Translate those business challenges / questions into detailed use case specifications: formulate detailed scope as well as measurable and actionable goals
Take the lead in use case execution on a data science level. This includes the ownership of the following tasks:
Identify data requirements in terms of data source, format, granularity and coverage
Specify the analytical approach leading to the desired end picture
Transform data into the final format which allows a statistical model to work on: cleansing, aggregation, normalization, etc.
Execute explorative analysis
Build statistical models, train and test the models
Interact with business stakeholders to verify plausibility, value and relevance of results; use appropriate and effective methods to explain analytical results (e.g. visualization techniques)
Document analytical approaches and results
Support IT and business stakeholders in use case operationalization: ensure analysis is repeatable and results can be integrated in decision making processes
Day-to-day operations
Maintain live analytical solutions (e.g. retraining of models, algorithm enhancements/tuning, etc.)
Provide second level support for analytical applications in case of incidents
Act as single point of contact for data science related questions
Knowledge, Capabilities and Experience
Pro-active (engaging & impact-oriented) mindset, ability to think end-to-end
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with different international cultures
Business mindset: very good numerical and analytical skills
Good communication (both written and verbal) and facilitation skills (small and large groups), especially when interacting with different levels of business
Fluent English (verbal and written),
Strong MS-Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Qualifications
1. A degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or other relevant field
2. Minimum of 3 years of hands-on data analytics experience
3. Strong expertise in statistical analysis, algorithms, data mining/machine learning techniques
4. Strong know how in data mining tools and languages (ideally R)
5. Experience working in the Hadoop ecosystem and related projects (ideally Spark)
6. Good business understanding
7. Solid IT skills, especially in database modeling and languages
8. General BI Skills preferred
