POSITION OVERVIEW:

Manager of PTME Systems Engineering functions including Controls Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Ergonomics, Safety, Operating Systems & Infrastructure Engineering (Civil/Mech/Dust/Mist/Coolant/Site Leader), Material Handling Engineering and Layout.  Manage all phases of programs including Pre-Program/Core, Engineering and Delivery to ensure Quality, Cost and Timing.  Responsible for resource planning and development/training for functional areas to ensure AP powertrain programs meet objectives. This position will be responsible for aligning regional AP / Ford Global / JV’s on capacity studies, engineering and peer review feedback globally.  Principle approval authority for system engineering designs and equipment specifications through to verification at launch.


KEY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

CONTROLS ENGINEERING:

 
  • Lead compliance of standardized global controls strategies, specifications, and technology developments based on "common practices," investment efficiency, and aligned PTME strategy
  • Regional Controls Governance ensuring controls strategies are aligned with Global PTME
  • Estimate, plan and deliver electrical infrastructure for PTME programs
  • Identify Controls Best Practice; launch Enablers, Training, and Change Control etc…
  • Develop baseline IT/Traceability strategy to support (Quality Leadership System) QLSCM/Q-works and quarantine plans (liaison with IT on IT / Controls interface issues)
  • Approve requests for deviations/waivers from OEM's and Plant
  • Monitor use of Structured software specification, organize training for OEM's where required
 INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING & ERGONOMICS:
 
  • Lead New Program Capacity and Operating Strategy (Operating Patterns, Cycle Time, Run at Rate) interfacing with Global Capacity Planning for all new programs and current state JPH planning.
  • Implement global common practices for Industrial Engineering within AP PTME including Launch/Changeover plans, Simulation, Constraint Analysis, FIS Validation, MOS-JPH Reporting,   ...
  • Lead development of direct / indirect / salaried labor staffing plans to meet program targets and drive World Clast Labor Target (WCLT) through continuous improvement
  • Lead AP PTME benchmarking activities and lead interface with business partners (GLO, MBO, Operations, and Harbour Report)
  • Lead Design for Ergonomics New Program deliverables
  • Provide ergonomic technical expertise for interpretation / implementation including evaluation of complex ergonomic analysis
SAFETY ENGINEERING:
 
  • Provide technical expertise for interpretation / implementation of PTME Safety Standards related to Powertrain Standards, Strategies, Bill of Process, Safe System of Work, Procedures and Guidelines
  • Complete/validate safety deliverable machine acceptance process of New Programs through Design, Run-off and Launch phases.
  • Drive PTME Safety through housekeeping tours, high hurts identification/resolution, PTA, OIS/JSA/WES, GERT, 8D reviews including driving open issues to closure.
  • Provide SMEs to anticipate, recognize and evaluate hazards including completing robust risk assessments (validate Master ECPL, access placards, including Power-on tasks)
  • Lead resolution of supplier/contractor safety violation/performance issues/near misses
  • Drive implementation of the PTO Construction Safety processes to ensure adherence to FAS08-075 Global Contractor Safety Management, and Global Construction Specification 01100.
  • Ensure Safety training for PTME and OEM’s
CIVIL, MECH, DUST, MIST, COOLANT & SITE LEADER ENGINEERING:
 
  • Manage PTME operating infrastructure activities for all AP PT plants to insure global common designs and to conform to local regulations and global PTME standards.
  • Develop and provide Site Leader resources to support the installation of OEM production equipment and construction contractors through "power-on" to ensure project completion within time & to budget.
  • Provide single point of contact for Production, Plant Engineering and Ford Land coordination for design input and construction services related to modifications, relocation & renovation at the manufacturing site to ensure compliance and delivery on time for the design, procurement, and installation of production support facilities (e.g. utility and distribution services, crane-way systems, special lighting, and in-plant structures, special enclosures, etc…)
  • Manage the design, procurement and installation of PTME production support facilities including dust and mist extraction systems, coolant filtration and distribution systems
  • Lead support of Environmental engineering to insure regulatory compliance in support of new program activities delivering BPR/BIF metrics and 100 point/STAR point rating achievement
LAYOUT & MATERIAL HANDLING ENGINEERING:
 
  • Manage PTME deliverables associated to plant / department layouts in keeping with Commodity Bill of Process & Ford Production Systems concepts supporting all new model programs.
  • Drive migration to 3D CAD Layouts, leveraging scanning methods for existing operations and field confirmation
  • Develop Factory Flow Layouts supporting overall Plant Material Flow Strategy including pedestrian safety analysis for individual commodity production lines and for overall Plant Layout utilization.
  • Incorporate into the plant shipping/receiving dock requirements, PMHV charging equipment and storage space requirements as developed in conjunction with Material Handling Engineering
  • Based upon developed layouts, compile & issue all estimating details & strategy requirements for all new model program cost studies & projects for the ‘Operating Systems & Infrastructure’ area for AP
  • Develop, procure and deliver material handling solutions supporting PTME Bill of Process facilities and in conjunction with MP&L activities and Packaging Engineering
  • Develop ergonomic material handling solutions which interface with machinery, packaging, line-feed equipment and product
  • Plan and identify materials and equipment for Market Place, In-Plant Logistics and feed to production lines
  • Identify powered material handling vehicle (PMHV & AGV) requirements – Application, vehicle type and model, quantity. Vehicles sourced by central PMHV specialist, AGV sourced by MHE.
  • Procure push carts/trolleys & towable trailers for component handling and develop other special purpose carts/trolleys.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering
  • Minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in Manufacturing Engineering Systems disciplines, major powertrain new model launch (PTME background, Black Belt and JV experience preferred)
  • Excellent knowledge of Engine / Transmission component manufacturing processes and procedures BOP, LQOS, FPS/Lean Manufacturing with advanced knowledge of Controls, Safety, Industrial Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering and the links with other key functions, such as Production, Process Engineering and Ford Land.
  • Ability to speak and write English fluently

SKILLS:
  • Strong PC skills and Internet applications.  Proficient use of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, and SharePoint.
  • Preferred GPDS Concepts, FPS and LQOS.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural joint venture environment, encouraging teamwork and cross-organization collaboration.
