Position: Technology Transfer Officer, Business Engagement and Innovation Services

Salary & Benefits: RMB120,000 – RMB179,000 per annum before all deductions, depending on qualifications and experience.
Qualifications:
Essential: Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline; Good understanding of the research / innovation environment; Thorough knowledge and understanding of Intellectual Property Rights in China, including legal and procedural practices; Ability to liaise with specialists legal advisors, work co-operatively and independently, taking initiative and leadership according to demands; Excellent inter-personal and communication skills and the ability to win the confidence of both academic staff and representatives from industry; Good written and oral communication skills in English and Chinese; Minimum of 5 years relevant working experience including 2 years directly in IP commercialization; Proven analytical and problem solving skills, especially in relation to commercial, legal and financial topics; Proven planning and organizational skills.
Desirable: Postgraduate/professional qualification; Knowledge of Intellectual Property Rights in other jurisdictions (especially UK, Europe, USA); Good understanding and links with the industrial community; Experience gained in both university and commercial environments.
Job outline:
This role helps to manage commercialisation of intellectual property within the university. This includes management of Intellectual Property (IP) as well as the commercialisation of IP (eg through licensing or company formation). The objective is to secure a commercial return through successful exploitation of University intellectual property. At first this role will focus on identifying and protecting university IP, but will soon move into exploitation.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
? Assessment and Advice - assess often complex individual IP situations and decide on the most appropriate course of action for each. In doing so, provide specialist advice to the academic community on IP-related matters, and convey to the academics the IPR system with clear explanations and instructions on next steps. Promote the importance of IP and technology transfer within the Schools and Faculties within the portfolio.
? Policy/ Procedures - Develop clear procedures for processing IP while liaising closely with senior management at UNNC and UNUK on related policy development.
? Disclosures – Work closely with members of the academic community to identify potential UNNC IP and assess its commercial potential.
? Finance - Assist university inventors in sourcing and securing funding for developing new technologies.
? Commercialisation – assist with IP due diligence and formulating commercialisation plans around new technologies, whether through licensing or company formation, discussing financial and legal judgements with senior management and making recommendations accordingly.
? Partner liaison – assist inventors in identifying and engaging commercial partners such as potential licensees or venture partners.
? Liaise with colleagues locally, in the UK and Malaysia, as well as agents appointed by the university, in conducting the above. This will involve balancing complex requirements across business units with assertiveness, tact and diplomacy.
? Collect and collate information as required to meet the needs of key internal (and sometimes external) stakeholders around IP and commercialisation activities, producing clear and concise management reports of IP activity and issues arising.
? Any other duties appropriate to the role and level.
