Position: Business Development Manager for Marine Sector, Business Engagement and Innovation Services

Salary & Benefits: RMB120,000 – RMB179,000 per annum before all deductions, depending on qualifications and experience.

Qualifications:

Essential: Bachelor’s Degree and/or appropriate professional qualification(s) (or equivalent) in a relevant subject; Proficient in both English and Chinese spoken and written languages; Good knowledge and understanding of marine sector or similar/related sectors; Good understanding of the higher education environment; Ability to network internally and externally and maintain good relationship with key stakeholders; Excellent communications and interpersonal skills; Effective team working; Proficient in use of computers and relevant software such as Microsoft Office; Ability to write clear, concise and accurate documentation; Ability to lead projects independently; At least 3 years working experience in business development; Project experience including liaison with external clients/partners; Willingness to travel and work in evenings, at weekends or during holidays occasionally if required.

Desirable: Master’s Degree or equivalent; Exposure to businesses; Experience working or studying internationally; Experience conducting an external facing role in Higher Education or the specified sector; Existing list of industrial contacts.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- In marine industrial sector, take a leading role in developing business engagement plans and capability statements;
- Promote the university’s services and identify prospective business engagement and income generating opportunities;
- Continually update the plans for business engagement;
- Identify and establish links with potential partners locally, regionally, nationally and internationally;
- Facilitate discussions between relevant University staff, particularly academics, and businesses in order to secure new collaborative projects;
- Inform academic staff of sector opportunities and needs of business partners to stimulate the appetite for engagement;
- Develop effective relationships with senior colleagues in relevant disciplines to ensure that business engagement adds value to and aligns with other strategic aims and activities;
- Collect and collate information as required to meet the needs of key internal (and sometimes external) stakeholders;
- Liaise with colleagues locally and in the UK and Malaysia campuses to ensure effective internal communication and collaboration, and represent business development within the university to help increase awareness, engagement and procedures related to business engagement;
- Represent the university in the wider community as necessary to ensure that business engagement is aligned with internal and external strategic priorities;
- Any other duties appropriate to the grade and role of the post holder.
