Center of Competence at Boehringer-Ingelheim (BI) China
Boehringer-Ingelheim (BI) is the largest privately-owned international pharmaceutical company with about 42,000 employees worldwide. Since 1994, BI has started the operations and businesses in China. Our success and value is built on people and innovation. The Center of Competence at BI China was officially launched in August 2010 in Shanghai due to BI’s rapid business growth and demand in China. To innovate and contribute more for BI and world’s healthcare and because of the fast expansion, our Process Development Lab of Center of Competence at BI China currently has several scientist positions in Shanghai.


Position Discription of Process Development (Scientist of Process Development):
1. To work full time in the lab, doing process development work, and scale up based on lab procedures in the kilolab if required.
2. To work with other scientists, functions, and project teams to develop new scalable synthetic routes or optimize the existing processes for early or late phase development projects.
3. To identify and propose existing or possible impurities in the process based on synthetic routes and rational mechanisims.
4. To develop technical packages for key starting materials or intermediates for BI owned APIs.
5. To support pilot or manufactory plants and suppliers with the transfer of new products and ensure that GMP and EHS aspects are fully respected.
6. To ensure that IP rights from the target compounds are fully controlled and covered by BI through innovation, develop systematically alternative routes of synthesis if necessary.
7. To synthesize small amounts of (non GMP) drug substances, intermediates, by- or degraded products, metabolites and other related compounds.


Professional Requirements:
1. Advanced degrees in synthetic organic chemistry are required. Masters or PhDs are prefered, bachelors are acceptable if with long-term industrial experiences.
2. Solid synthetic lab hands-on practice and scale-up experience are expected. Familiarity of operations, equippments and set-up in pilot or manufactory plants would be an advantage.
3. Hands-on experience of HPLC, GC is expected. Additional experience on HPLC-MS, GC-MS, NMR would be an advantage.
4. Concept and experience for GMP is preferred for the candidates but not required.
5. Good written and oral communication skills in English are expected
6. Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and ability to work in teams is required
7. Excellent academic achievement is preferred.
8. Both Experienced and fresh graduates are welcome.
