Purpose of Position
？ The plant engineer is responsible for the technical aspects of the operation of the chemical plants to which the position is associated. Main objectives are to ensure thatthe plant is running without technical setbacks in a safe and environmental friendly way and to handle the technical problems which arise in the most effective and economic way.
Principle Accountability
？ The scope of responsibilities covers the planning, organization and monitoring of maintenance and repair activities and the handling of all technical safety and environmental aspects of the plants. Also the availability of spare parts and documentation shall be ensured, and small and medium investment projects managed . Additionally the related budget has to be planned and supervised.
Technical Knowledge Base
？ A strong background in mechanical and/or chemical engineering is required. The plant engineer needs to identify problems or improvement opportunities of various kinds of chemical plant equipment, and he defines and plan the solutions and manages the execution of the related tasks. Therefore also profound knowledge of maintenance principles and procedures as well as related experience is required.
Team and Resource Management
？ The plant engineering works together with the plant engineering managers, other plant engineers and additional resources from the plant engineering team as well as the site workshops and external contractors. He needs to coordinate the various resources in order to plan the tasks and execute them.
Decision Making
？ In coordination with the other related departments and the plant engineering manager the plant engineer decides which approach and which resources he uses in his task to maintain the optimum plant status.
Financial Impact
？ The reliability and effectiveness of the plant equipment which is a result of the dedication and knowledge of the plant engineering manager is a main factor in the plant performance and therefore a main contributor to the financial success of the plants.
Interpersonal Skill sand Networking
？ Good interpersonal communication skills are a basic requirement as the daily work needs frequent discussions and coordination within the plant operation and plant engineering teams, the site workshops and other site departments as well as local and oversea engineering teams .
Problem Solving and Innovative Thinking
？ In order to overcome the daily technical and organizational challenges the plant engineer needs to apply a sound judgment based on innovative thinking as well as a rational and logic approach, which needs to be reflected on proven procedures to assist the execution of the tasks.
