This position will work under the direction of a scientist or project manager and be responsible for performing and sometimes directing a wide variety of non-routine, technical tasks. Duties will include the preparation and testing of new materials and product structures, establishing pilot plant operating conditions, evaluating new/improved manufacturing processes, setting up, running and interpreting the results of factory tests, and creating prototypes in support of regional NPD and process development efforts. The individual in the role must be comfortable working with scientist or project manager and possess the ability to interpret data, draw conclusions, make recommendations and prepare written reports. This position will frequently interact with AFP manufacturing and members of their product development team and will be required to interact with sales, marketing, customers, and/or vendors.




Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



¨ Provides support to NPD teams for both sourced and internal new product development projects.

¨ Completes feasibility and development studies in an accurate manner utilizing sound technical and data analysis principles.

¨ Provides technical assistance relating to new product introductions, running factory qualification tests, evaluating the results and providing recommendations.

¨ Plans and conducts manufacturing process qualification trials at vendor locations.

¨ Understand the measurement criteria and relative importance of key product attributes

¨ Identifies opportunities, recommends / approves alternate material substitutions and new technical approaches in support of new products, quality improvement, performance enhancements, and/or lower finished product cost.

¨ Recommends process changes necessary to optimize product results (cost, performance, or manufacturing effectiveness).

¨ Designs and executes test plans as part of a development team.

¨ Actively works with team members to determine approaches to problems, new business requirements and application of new concepts and technology.

¨ Evaluates existing and new technologies as assigned identifying technical factors that impact product/system performance and making recommendations for additional actions/modifications.

¨ Collects information for corporate environmental and legal disciplines concerning issues relative to new product PSDR (product safety & design reviews).

¨ Provides technical support to AFP-Asia manufacturing plants as required for approved new products or on-going operations.

¨ Understands process limitations and process variation.

¨ Works with raw material or sourced product suppliers to insure Company's performance criteria is achieved.

¨ Proactively transfers technical knowledge to other key stakeholders as required by business need.

¨ Provides training to other technicians and associates on project learnings.

¨ Networks with other technicians to insure best practice is shared.

¨ Participates in LEAN events to improve the overall effectiveness of assigned activities.

Requirements: BS degree in Chemistry or other related technical field of study. Have a demonstrated understanding of good laboratory practices with regard to conducting experiments and collecting data. The ideal candidate will have four or more year's experience working in a laboratory or manufacturing environment on project implementation, mixing, printing and coatings technology. Flooring manufacturing and LEAN experience are desired.
