Functional and Field Test Engineer

Background

Atlas Copco name is the premium brand in world wide mining and construction equipment market. To continue producing high quality design and final product, sufficient testing is always necessary to ensure our quality standard are followed and enforced. The functional tests will be carried out to validate the design specifications and environment impact. Longer term field test will confirm the availability of the rigs and failure modes if any problems will be encountered. Modifications may be done based on these tests before start of the series productions. Due to the complexity of tests and logistics, a knowledgeable and skilled test engineer is demanded for our D&D organizations. The tests will also fulfill our legal obligations and provide great values to our customers.

Responsibilities:

The Test Engineer will have following responsibilities.

• Function tests and field tests will include all the tests between a component to a complete rig
• Responsibility for creating function test procedures and requirements
• Responsibility to ensure that directives and regulations are fulfilled for the design
• Responsibility to enforce all applicable international, national or company standards
• Initiate needed test request for prototype rigs
• Design or plan for test method and equipment to be used for testing
• Coordinate all tests related logistic issues from service, market, production, logistics etc.
• Perform functional tests in the factory and operate instruments
• Carry out the field test and record test data
• Be the master operator and train other operators
• Communicate with project leaders or product responsible for test directions and results
• Write test reports and maintain test database
• Acquire and maintain test equipment and test facilities

The function and field test engineer should have following qualifications:

• University educated in engineering disciplines
• Certain design capabilities are preferred
• Experience in CAD software is desirable
• Good understanding of the working mechanisms and principles of the rigs been tested
• Broader knowledge in testing and instrumentation applications
• Experience in operating rigs and know the rig applications
• Have hands on capabilities and is willing to ‘get hands dirty’
• Excellent communication skills with different group of people
• Ability to write clear scientific report and make presentations
• Sufficient English language proficiency both in writing and verbal

The function and field test engineer’s role is to qualify machine designs and validate the design specifications. Production of any new design can not start without passing functional and field test. The tests must be designed and carried out in a most practical and economically way to quickly and fairly qualify the new design. The function and field test engineer must ensure the test method used are following existing international, national or company standards.

The function and field test engineer will also be a liaison between different division and locations of Atlas Copco company to exchange ideas and information. The co-operations and share of resources will be reinforced to increase efficiency and effectiveness of the tests.
